This game is amazing!

Post » Wed Oct 12, 2011 3:31 am

I am about 8 hrs into the campaign and I can't believe how great this game is! I heard some real bad things about the ending so I went on youtube and watched the last 15 minutes, and I thought it wasn't that bad. I do think it could of been better , but it just opens the game up to dlc, and a second game. I am mostly a multiplayer gamer, but this game has such a epic campaign that I am now a convert. I personally think this should rank at least in the top 5 games of the year if not the very top. Thanks to the people who made this game, and gave me a excuse to get away from multiplayer fps for awhile.

If you consider paying 60 dollars for 25 hour single player epic then you'll get epic. Personally I feel like I was ripped off. :sadvaultboy:

I see what your saying. But the pure quality of game is amazing. It has some of the best fps elements I have ever played, the grahpics are the best I have ever seen for a game like this, and the open world with direction as they say makes up for lack of play time. Thats just my opinion.

Rage is a good game, but if I knew it was only 25 hours long and that was with me dikeing around in game I would have never gotten it. I should have gotten the newest dlc for New Vegas and saved 50 dollars.

It has it's shortcomings and the story does not connect at all in any emotional level...it's pretty much a vehicle for the game. The Shooting on the other hand is the best I have experienced in a long long time. The Weapons are so well done with the alternative ammo and the gameplay is very diversified--from duck and cover, to sniping to all out circle strafing rockets to the FACE--it has a great balance of these elements.

The animation and artistic world is truly revolutionary and some of these maps are designed so professionally and with a labor of love. If you like Shoot-em ups you OWE it to yourself to experience this game. The fighting gets frantic about half way into the game, the first few instances are decent but as soon as you get to the authority and to subway town it gets so much better! The Mutant Expansion map is so far the best example of just pure visceral FPS joy!

Some of these low reviews from Writers--I have to question if they even like this Genre and maybe that is why there are so many polar reviews because RAGE. The game does have everything and the kitchen sink: from RPG to FPS to RACING--they wanted to quiet their critics but in the end I love how id software did not lose their identity of having the most in your face satisfying FPS combat--they did that RIGHT

I can't believe 25 hours of entertainment is seen as a rip off for the price you paid!

I think people are just to demanding these days!

25 hour playthrough, and then you can play it once or twice more. Plenty of bang for your buck compared to most 6 hour fps single player campaigns.

I'm used to games that I can get 300+ hours out of them, on one play through. Games like Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Dragon Age; and to a lesser extent Borderlands, GTA4, Sanits Row 2 clocking in at 100 hours. Like I said, I should have gotten the 10 dollar DLC for New Vegas, would have saved 50 dollars and gotten 25 hours form it.

If you think 25 hours is good value that's great for you. I don't think it is and your opinion of how I feel means nothing to me.

Why would I want to play the same railroad game for another 25 hours? This game has no story at all and playing it again would be pointless.

Apart form saints row and gta4, all the games you have mentioned are RPG. This game has some RPG elements, but not many. Borderlands and fallout imo are RPG with FPS thrown in. Thats the difference, this is a FPS, a FPS done well. The actual mechanics and gameplay are superb.

You couldn't name another hobby where $60 will get you 25 hours of entertainment, it is still value for money!!!

not all games can be like oblivion and have hundreds of hours of game play. most RPGs aren't longer then 60 hours these days. 25 hours for a FPS is a great length IMO. If you buy a 20 dollar blue ray movie which only last 90-120 minutes roughly and compare that to paying 60 dollars for 25-50 hours of gameplay, its a wonderful deal. 50 hours assuming you play it more than once. Plus you can play the game over again as the years go by.

Amazing is a word I reserve for things in life that are truly amazing. Rage is good, its not amazing....If loading screens and old school game saves amaze you....well, I am speechless.

Its good...7.5 out of 10 - its not a 10 which is amazing.

No real multiplayer Team Death Match kept it from being that.

I'd have to disagree. All credit to ID for taking a different route down MP.

Appreciated it probably doesn't have the same longtivity as most FPS MP out at the moment, but when you want a couple of hours of something different it delivers. Plus it has the legendary quad damage, enough said :)

Could be better, though. I mean besides the Single Campaign which is enjoyable despite the crappy graphics configs a steady Death Match is the thing that would keep me longer on the monitor with this game. Overall to be honest that is the main thing I bought the game for, not knowing until I already did that this is not included. Considering the fact that the mod opportunities for PC are leveled to 0, chances to get updated with new things are really low. Considering this and other things makes it even less enjoyable than what Doom3 and Quake 4 had to offer. We talk about games from the previous generation, both of them made me play through the campaign multiple times. I guess most of the negative impact on people reactions comes from the fact that the expectation in much cases are not met. Maybe ppl like me and other long term fans of Id are disappointed for following through based on things seen from the company so far. Maybe we are wrong, maybe the developer is wrong, one thing is for sure and both the Complaining and the Anti-complaining tribes have to agree with - Could be better !

Edit:
*sight- I guess I have to wait for Quake 5 or Doom 4 for a quality Id experience :(

I agree with you about the multiplayer, valar. I personally don't play rage multiplayer and i wish they had the usual game types of multiplayer like ctf, DM, etc. Also, the ending is complete [censored].

Leaving aside the technical snafu experienced by almost all ati users

I'd say occasionally the FPS combat did it for me, I had some really really nice gunfights, the problem was there really weren't enough Wow! moments.
20 hours is generous, and a lot of it seemed artificially lengthend, having to drive across the wasteland for 5 minutes, kill 2 guys, pick up object drive back.

I felt the story was weak, The authority V the resistance has been done better in the past, and as the big baddies of the game didn't really seem like to much of a threat.

Also lamest ending ever

On a whole it was ok, but I have to agree with Valar, it could be a whole lot better.

And better is what I expected from ID

Your average newly released movie is an hour and a half long and costs $18.oo so that's roughly six hours of entertainment for the same price or over 4 times more expensive. After a year or two you can buy or rent both movies and games for peanuts. I'm much more concerned with all the false and misleading advertising they use to promote sales then the actual cost per hour of video games.

I dont really care about short games, Max Payne 2 was pretty short, but it was tight as [censored] and a joy to play.

My problems not with the length of rage, its with the shoddy writing.

Also I'm confused, Why give the option to decline story quests when the game cannot proceed without them? or insist you keep clicking on NPC's to get their dialogue when you've no dialogue options yourself, its almost like they were designing it as an rpg and decided to cut all those parts.

You may not want to play again, but a lot of other people will. Most people don't play a FPS for the story anyway, especially not an id game. They play for the gun fights. Surely you didn't buy Rage for the story. "Hey, this is an id game, its gonna have a great story!" lol.

You can also do things like alter your strategy and how you approach the fights. So there is plenty reason to play again IMO.

25 hours feels like bad value? Quality over quantity, any day. Are you an RPG player by any chance?

i believe this game has excellent replay value, and that along with the beautiful graphics are the best parts of the game

because the FPS mixed with a lil rpg, all the weapon/ammo/equipment choices for each battle is great for replaying, plus when you fight the enemies over again its always different how they react and what they do, then you got the races/driving mixxed in too

its great game for what it is......its just the ending, the ending is so terrible
