Do you think that this game would be good, even if I didn't like Fallout 3? Should I consider getting it, or is it basically the same gameplay as Fallout 3?

Depends of what aspect of Fallout you didnt like:

If you hated the combat: AVOID
If you hated the story: GET
If you hated the depressive location:GET

I loved the combat. I hated the location and story. The game was to short. Is New Vegas longer, does it have more quests?

The combat is tons better than Fallout 3, though. Well, if you consider the big problem with Fallout 3's combat to be "it's everywhere, all the time, take 5 steps and it's another giant radscorpion or Supermutant party."

It had very few side quests.

The main quest has four major paths so there's plenty of replability and if you want to be thorough there's tons to do. My first character went with the NCR and even though I was trying to go through fairly quickly it took my 50 hours (and I was level 23 when I started the finale). In a few characters I'll probably do the NCR again but this time I plan to do all of the NCR side-quests and it will probably take me to level 30 easily.

FONV focuses on factions and stories more than FO3 but has less focus on exploration. It's not that exploration doesn't play a part but the game world isn't as barren so things tend to be closer together.

I would say get it, it's in my opinion a much better story than FO3 and the combat is much more improved.

Don't get too hung up on the amount of quests in the game. Ive done everything in NV and my play times are around the same times they were for F3.

It's hard to answer your question. If you didn't like Fallout 3, there's a good chance that you won't like this one either. New Vegas is improved in a lot of ways, but they're still quite similar games. I did like Fallout 3 a lot, but I think this one happens to be better.

Also the bugs, not sure about your bug experiences with F3, or what system your on but NV has a lot of bugs, a lot of game breaking ones too.

Yeah, I know about that. Most should be fixed when I get it.

You should see if there are any used copies, because it seemed like alot of people threw a tantrum and returned it.

There probably will be used copies, there are usually like 10 used copies after a new game is release. I think gamestop buys the games, and just sells them as used.

If your only beef with 3 was that it wasn't quite like 1 or 2, then you should like NV. Obsidian isn't as good with open world games/exploration as Beth though. Still its a great game, better than your other two choices in current RPGs; Gothic 4 and Fable 3.

Fable 3 - Action RPG, not a true RPG, short but good. Gothic 4 - Worst RPG I have played.

I scoff at people who say that New Vegas is nothing but a glorified FO3 expansion. But the more I think about it they do have a point. This game is very similiar in a lot of ways. The gameplay itself is mostly the same and the Oblivion with guns feel that I can't shake is still there (thanks to the engine) not exactly a bad thing but I digress.
For me personally the things they kept the same are largely if it ain't broken. And what they did change is nothing but improvements IMHO.
Take it from someone who found FO3's story lacking this one is much better.
As for the length I think I'm already doubled my playtime on this from FO3 and I'm just exploring mostly. Sidequests all over the place and things to do everywhere you go. New Vegas beats FO3 to the curb and laughs in its face.
We can only wish for expansions this great.

Agree about Fable, but Gothic wasnt as bad as Two Worlds or Risen.

Have to disagree here, Risen was most definitely better than Gothic 4 (or Two Worlds or any Fable for that matter). :laugh:

Risen was unplayable on the 360, the X axis was too sensative and you couldnt change it.

Seems fine on my friends Xbox... Though I do agree that it is shoddy port in general.

You cant even turn without doing a 180. You actually get dizzy trying to move in that game. Divinity II > most of those Euro RPGs. That game was actually under rated.
