This Game Only Had Three Testers?

If you look at the credits only three testers are listed. That has to be wrong right? How can a game this massive have only three testers?

If that is true it explains SO much.

Did you look at both the developer section and publisher? Usually developers have smaller focused testing teams. Whereas the publisher has the larger team.

maybe, but it doesn't say how long they spent testing on it. That is if there were really only 3 testers. you might try checking it again (probably did or are) and pay attention to what comes before that, it could be that the tester's names were listed from either the gamesas section of the credits or the obsidian section of the credits (these days more than one team is involved with making a game and they are typically seperated in the credits... I mean geeez have you seen the credits for assasin creed, they just go on and on and on.)

Only three? Well that explains everything...

That's nothing compared to the one tester who tested Hotel Mario

I think your missing 2 zeros after that 3.

I honestly feel bad for Bethesda and Obsidian over the save bug. It is clearly a problem with the interaction between New Vegas and Steam, something they did not spend those thousands of hours testing before hand like the actual game was. There are Some bugs yes, but only the Save bug and a few others appear to be universal across all platforms and most will be fixed in a number of days. What irks me is the Huge hit they are taking over the Save Game bug when its not even the fault of the game or its developers. Next time I suspect they will do more testing on the Delivery mechanism (whatever that is next time) to prevent this kind of tragic situation. I for one having played and modded Fallout3 for over 2,000 hours can Definitely see that there are far fewer bugs in this puppy than I expected to see, I've had only 1 game crash so far and that I find significant for the platform.

Not much consolation to those getting thrashed by the bugs, but I do know that between Bethesda and Obsidian there were Hundreds of people testing this game.

Of course there's 3.

1 for PC, 1 for XB360 and 1 for PS3.

How else are you going to maximize profits?

You don't understand what game testing actually means. You would not do it for free.

lol, this. yeah, you do more writting about what you experienced than you actual do play the game. and more than that, the testers are playing the game with EVERY bug that was originally in it. Playing the tester version would be worse than playing daggerfell.

If you go through the credits, you'll see that there's well over 70 testers that worked on the game. I'm sure the number is probably higher than that.

Actually, no the save game bug doesn't have to do with steam. People have tried disabling Steam Cloud, running it in offline mode and not getting achievements, etc. no luck. You have to go into fallout's files and fix it.
Even if it was steam, there are plenty of huge bugs that are not steam. For example, the framerate dropped to abysmal levels in big fights because it always dropped when NPCs came on screen. So with lots of NPCs you can have a top of the line PC, be running it in low graphics, and have a framerate of like 3 fps (if you're lucky) because the game didn't know how to use direct X. People (read: the community) made a fix that links FO:NV to direct X like it's supposed to be.
Those are the ones I've encountered personally. Here are some I've heard about but not personally encountered yet (I've played the game about five hours so far):
"Your companion may not initiate a conversation with her elder, forcing you to reload a saved game or ignore the quest. A mutant for hire will respond to your request to continue the quest with the same dialogue that he delivers if you tell him you need more time. Scripting errors abound in which things that are supposed to happen never do, while in many other cases, inexplicable events occur that will boggle your mind. Locals will freak out and run around as if someone is brandishing a weapon and then stop and walk back to their assigned positions. A vendor might attack you unprovoked, even if you have a golden reputation in that town and are dressed in neutral clothing. Sometimes, it's unclear if you're unaware of a contributing factor or if the game is simply going bonkers. Not to mention frequent crashes on both consoles and corrupted game saves, which might cause you to lose progress. In addition, the longer you play, the slower the frame rate gets (on the Xbox 360), or the more noticeable the screen tearing and frequent pauses become (on the PlayStation 3)"
These bugs are courtesy of http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/rpg/falloutnewvegas/review.html?tag=topslot%3Bimg%3B1&page=2.

I think Obsidian made a great game, but the QA was nowhere to be found. Which seems to becoming a pattern for them if Alpha Protocol is any indication. I really hope they'll make up for it and start with the patching. (Which, they have, to an extent. I believe they fixed the framerate issue yesterday). I hope they'll continue fixing it with patches so in the not so distant future we'll have a game that's acceptably buggy, instead of what it is now.

My experience in "game testing" (not this game) was that I had to make sure every game menu/sub menu system linked to the right thing. Very tedious.

Every single one of your testers needs to be fired and replaced by people who actually know what they are doing and care about their jobs - there's no way some of these bugs slipped by 70+ people unless they were all dossing off.

That random crashing was in Fallout 3 for quite a few people aswell, why wasn't that addressed and when will it be fixed?

you should keep in mind that the 70+ testers probably found and fixed the bugs that were far worse than what there is now. I think that they should publish a list of what bugs they found and fixed before they launched the game so that people would be a little more greatful for what testers do for the thankless consumers.

I have no doubt the testers fixed numerous worse bugs. However, if you only fix 50 or 60% of the problem, no matter how thoroughly you removed that 50 or 60% of bugs, you left 40% more, which is not ok.

Thankless customers? Do you realise how botched this games release is? games in this state shouldn't be released, I payed good money for a game that constantly randomly crashes JUST like Fallout 3 did, people with the same problem including myself have tried everything you can think of and it didn't work, the game is broken and only the devs can fix it.

Wouldn't you be pissed to get the next game in the series only to have the SAME issue that's been reported all over the Fallout 3 tech forum over and over for the past 3 years?

I mean seriously, I can play any other much more graphically advanced game out there and they not only run better, they don't crash every 5-30 minutes, it's a joke and I want it fixed, hell I get over 60FPS average in Crysis Warhead while in FNV my PC struggles to get over 50fps while outside of buildings.

You can get a patch for the framerate problem on Fallout Nexus. Look for d3rdr or something like that.

The only bugs I've run into are pretty minor. Havok glitches (which don't surprise me), a dialogue infinite XP bug (if you do HELIOS One, you can just keep picking the dialogue option that ends the quest and keep receiving stimpacks and XP), and a camera glitch when walking into the Tops the first time (Because the guard at the desk initiates dialogue with you right when you walk in, the camera focus on him through a pillar).

Other than that, the game is running very smoothly; a lot better than FO3 and I haven't had the game stutter, freeze or crash on me AT ALL. Maybe I am lucky. Maybe it's just the Steam version (I always buy retail). Or maybe haters just gonna hate.

I've seen that patch, it's nice to have it available but it still makes me mad how some guy created that thing in less than a day while the entire dev team seems to take days/weeks to produce fixes of the same quality, in the next patch i'm betting anything that we'll still have no official fix for it and we will have to rely on that guys hacked dll for months to come.

yes, and I was right after FO3 came out. I started a topic about how mad I was that FO3 caused the RRoD and howled about it for a while until I found out that my problems had nothing to do with the game it self.

besides, obsidian didn't have a choice about delaying the game. and if the game was delayed there would be en equel intensity of anger on this forum about how the devs were dangling the game in front of them like a toy on a string only to pull it away.

these bugs WILL be fixed and its just as buggy as every game this size is when it first comes out.
