This might be a WOW thing but.....

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 10:56 pm

I haven't played WOW in such a long time but the memories are still there.

Death and dying in skyrim is bland. If you die then you die, simple as that. No previously load save or any of that. When you die in WOW you turn into a wisp aka spirit or ghost. You must travel as a wisp, and find your body in order for you to return back to what you were doing.

This would be a great addition to add in Skyrim.

After you get killed you get transferred to a nearby cemetery and you must travel to a distance (With darkness fog texture like and when looking up you see sovngarde sky) to find your corpse. Once there you click on your corpse and activate it thus bringing back to life again.

Please add this to the game :D I be one happy son of a [censored] :D

Essentially the dragonborn is immortal because when he/she dies a previous load game loads up.

If you play WOW then you can understand me.

the dragonborn has the soul of a dragon but still a mortal body, this doesnt make you immortal

im familiar with the wow mechanics, and it simply doesnt work that way in the TES universe

but im sure some modder can help you out if it hasnt already been done

i recall someone doing something similar back in morrowind

the reloading is just for gameplay purposes, and since we already have that there is no need for a corpse run each time you die. just use that quickload

the game saves every 10 seconds anyway

How about when you die you stay dead forever and your game implodes.

My character dies, it is dead. Period.

Now, if I decide to load an earlier save and try again, that's something else, as I am going back in time to relive events.

I use a flux capacitor myself to go relive events! :bolt:

I liked that feature in WoW, actually. I thought it added a small bit of strategy to the game in certain situations. I also thought it also looked pretty cool: the whole world went grey and you're surrounded by creepy sounds.

There was a mod in Oblivion that did something similar. I thought it added an interesting new dimension to playing Oblivion. I have to admit, though, I didn't use it every game. Sometimes I just want to reload and get back to what I'm doing.

Maybe the Elder Scrolls MMO (which I will NOT play) will give the OP what they want. I know one person on youtube who compares EVERYTHING to WoW. And even she isn't thrilled with the idea of the ES MMO.

Brings back too many memories of raids wiping over and over and over and over again. While it could be interesting, things get complicated when you take into account the werewolf strand and being a vampire and stuff. I could see it being useful in MMOs since your body could be camped and such, but not so much in a single player game like Skyrim.

Not exactly. If you were immortal you couldn't be killed or would be raised right after death. As far as the game is concerned when you die you're dead - you lose all progress from your last save. A "save" is an artificial way to continue your game. :P If you don't believe me ask any of the dead NPCs about reloading their saves.

I think there's no real reason to import WoW conventions into TES....

I always find it a bit amusing when people compare things to WoW, like Blizzard was the first to ever do anything. The idea of an ethereal ghosted character searching for their physical body to return to was done many years prior to WoW, in a little game called "Ultima Online".

Death was no fun in UO. Killing on the other hand....well...

thats the difference in who invented it and who brought it to the crowds and made it famous

the people who take the credit quite often are not the people who invented it

Well, Skjor seems to do it occasionally, especially without the patches...

You must go through a lot of characters if you play by that set of rules.

No thanks, I'd rather just get on with the game and load a previous save.
Not to mention that it's not really lore-friendly, I don't really want Skyrim to be like Warcraft.
We'll have TESO for that soon enough.
