Is this true and even possible, creation may come to console

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 1:27 pm

First off glad to hear pc is getting the 1.4 update now. I hope they rush it through certification for us console users. Anyways I found this today saying the creation kit may come to consoles in the future.

Unless they invent a full-scale keyboard that can plug into a 360 controller port, I'd wager they're just blowing smoke. I don't know squat about mods, but people who do know about mods say that the creation kit is a very in-depth, complex tool. There's no way such a thing is feasibly controlled with two little thumbsticks.

That said, there should be a keyboard designed for use with the 360.

i guess the creation kit wont make it to consoles, i honestly cant believe that would work out. i rather think that they are trying to get the workshop to the consoles, so the console players will be able to download mods that where made on the pc

I'd say it's highly unlikely, and even so, wouldn't be available to *all* console users. I, personally, would love to at least have access to some mods as I don't have the kind of money to spend on a good gaming PC. Even if I can't make them,at least having them would be awesome. Like the Deadmau5 helmet mod I saw yesterday. That was enough to tip the scale. It was so good-looking!

This is not up to Bethesda.
It's up to Sony and Microsoft to decide.

So I don't think so...
Not with the ps3 or xbox 360 in my opinion...

It's a powerful tool. It's not like a map editor or anything like it.
It's a game engine. You can do coding with it.

So there is security problems...
And industry problems, like people not buying other stuff, because the community is offering something better and for free.

He's taking about mods not the actual Creation Kit. it's really down to Sony and Microsoft as said in another thread.

And just how many mods do you suppose it takes to make a games console start venting smoke and catching fire?

Many years ago I managed to bust a laptop by trying to run Morrowind with too many mods on it. Many many years ago...

But it'd be nice to have a few simple fixes and custom patches here and there. The very best mods back in the Morrowind days weren't the huge continental expansions nor the massive questlines... but simple things like better textures, weapon tweaks and the like.

I can't see how a console would even be able to run the editor in the first place?

I can't imagine having the CK on console...

but maybe MOD's created using the CK on PC could be downloaded to console.

That would be EPIC.

Sony has a much MUCH higher chance of supporting this than Microsoft though... who seem to want a fascist control over all digital distribution of content and pigeon hold devs into paid content and restricted free content options.

I'm on 360 but I really hate M$

It's not the game engine, you need the source code for that and money to buy a licence. it's just the editor to edit the game world.

read article

they HOPE to ONE DAY bring this to consoles.

It's a pipe-dream.

That said, Sony let Valve connect Portal 2 to some type of community network for downloading maps... so there IS a potential possibility.

As I just said in my last post though... M$ will never EVER allow it.

Ironically, Chrome things Micro$oft is correct spelling...

If they make a completely scaled down version like the one that Hunted: Demon's Forge of farcry 2 has then maybe. But the actual creation kit they ship for PC's will never make it to consoles. I don't think mods will either, and if they ever did they would only make it to PS3. Xbox Live won't be allowing user made content unless it was made via an in game tool that was designed to work within the limits of the technology.

My Playstation works with any USB keyboard.

As for a full Creation Kit on consoles? There's no way in hell that our hardware will run it properly, but I could see some CK-made mods being imported to consoles, a la Portal 2's level editor. Actually, this would be a massive boon for console gamers, and I hope Sony and MS let it happen.

I on PC, not consoles. But if I were I would be more happy about a decent save system and access to the console command interface in order to try to overcome quest bugs. Compared to that, the creation kit, which doesn't seem feasible to operate from a console, doesn't seem all that important.

Well the technology is there. Steam could easily incorporate a monthly subscription (optional) also to get money to modders. With the BILLIONS Microsoft and Sony have, it would hardly be too much for them to staff a few mod reviewers to approve the ones that don't crash their system's hardware resources.

Will they ever evolve to support the modern digital economy? Probably not. Greed conquers all, and the modding community themselves are misguided and generally against it. I guess its more important for them to pave over another few hundred acres of endangered wetlands instead.

Hooray for Earth!

the creation kit will never come to consoles, because it takes up far too much processing power and ram to run, even more than the game

however consoles may be able to get mods, but more than likely microsoft and sony wont allow it

That basically sums it up. You can't get the CK on Xbox/PS3 because it needs the Windows OS to run. But you could build on the PC and transfer it over to the consoles, at least in theory. The only problem is the consoles aren't nearly as powerful as PCs so people would need to be VERY careful about what kinds of mods to install, as one could easily lead to your game freezing or corrupting save files.
