To those who roleplay away from TES lore, what is your story

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 9:35 am

Myself for one, I couldn't indulge myself into TES lore no matter how much I tried to. My first RP character was an Altmer war-captain of Summerset Isle sent to Skyrim by the Psijic Order to solve the turmoil just didn't add up much to me and I lost interest in him too soon.

But after re-watching Lord of the Rings trilogy and heavily indulging myself in LotR games, I came up with an Aragorn who was very much younger and went to Skyrim in search of greater knowledge, acting like it was part of Middle-Earth. This is pretty much where he learned sword arts, alchemy, and whatnot the necessary skills of a ranger. I know it's against LotR lore but who cares anyway if one had fun doing it. :)

So what's yours?

I'm playing the widow of an unjustly disgraced general of the Imperial army, who was betrayed by Emperor Titus Mede and killed by General Tullius. She will become the Thane of Solitude, do the bards quests, side with the Imps
Spoiler
then do the double-cross
. The main quest and finally the DB questline.

She is in her mid-to-late 50's and is a heavy armoured battlemage

I currently play as an Imperial guard from roughly 210 years in the past. One night, while on patrol, he heard strange noises coming from a small shop in the Imperial City. He went to investigate only to find a strange group of people in the shop's basemant. They were chanting in a language he had never heard before and an ominous blue energy was flowing around the room. He was confused, but he knew they weren't supposed to be in there. So, he tried to break them up... only to get stunned by magic and captured by the group. The last thing he remembers from that night is being placed in the center of the room and seeing a strange scroll. He then blacked out. When he awoke, he was in a small cabin located just south of the Skyrim border. His possessions were gone. He had no clothes, no weaponry. He searched the cabin, and could only find old rags to wear. Not knowing where he was, he decided to travel north. While crossing the border, he unintentionally gets mixed up with the empire and the stormcloaks and finds himself arrested. That's where the game begins.

I actually have mods (both for immersion and just plain fun) that give him sayings of guards from Oblivion as well as custom armor to symbolize his past. He joined the empire in the civil war... but he doesn't agree with many of their current policies... and he also feels no real hatred for the Stormcloaks. He only joined the empire because that is what he knows. He will fight any imperial soldier who does something which goes against the old imperial ways or hurts the integrity of the empire. He will protect innocents at all costs. He is a guard at heart. However, he grows to HATE the thalmor and will stop at nothing to see them all defeated. The more he reads about the events of the past 200 years, the more rage he feels.

I know it's not well written or anything, but I don't care. It's all just for fun anyways haha.

I don't do any serious roleplaying. When I feel like it, I simply assume that my Argonian crossed the border into Skyrim seeking adventure. A province in turmoil is a province of opportunity, you see. And when he realized that he was as fit as any other man (or beast) to slaughter the imperials who had once selfishly ignored the pleas and protests of his people, well, he didn't hesitate to join the Stormcloaks and crack a few heads.

Act like V. Incredibly direct and extreme measures to protect the freedoms of Skyrim and overthrow the Thalmor. As a child, my character's tragedies were all caused by the Thalmor and the Empire so he wants vengeance but after discovering his dragon shout powers, he pledges to use his powers to destroy every Thalmor.

Basically V from V for Vendetta.

My Khajiit just woke up in the back of a wagon. Suffering from memory loss, he travels around skyrim looking for people he can place well earned arrows into.
He can't remember his name so his new friends call him puss. Hates the Legion cause they were going to cut off his head for no reason.
he also found the people of Skyrim to be racist.
So he dreams of one day making a pair of Fine Argonian Boots. alson dislikes rugs.

My Nord was forced to work at a "bathhouse" in the Imperial City. He was tired of being violated daily so he killed his master and fled to Skyrim. He walks funny still to this day.....

Me and that thief were partners in crime. When he got us caught and told them where I was hiding he snitched me out. Then his incessant crying got on my nerves, not to mention the coward that got us in this mess couldn't face the punishment. Somehow I felt sad to see him get that arrow, I mean he told me so many stories of his past about how he had to leave rorikstead and go out in the world and face the difficulty of having nothing, but damnit the guy snitched me out. Oh I'm a kahjiit assassin/ thief. Well just a thief, not official or anything until I joined the guild. Then the dark brotherhood came along, but its not like I'm innocent. I killed that old lady and I actually felt guilty afterward, I couldn't sleep at night. But the kid set me on that quest and I felt obligated to carry it out. If only I could refuse, but now my future is hopeless. I will serve sithis until the day I die.

For Skyrim i actually love playing according to lore and want to get into it even more which hasnt happened since Tes 2 Daggerfall. For Fallout 3, Oblivion, Morrowind i usually played a Caleb type character from the Monolith 3D Gore Shooter of the 1990s Blood. A sort of anti hero surviving through the ages with the power of dark magic and a universe worth of slaughter.

One of my characters is named Morded Hanin, She "survived" the Wake by using an Elder Scroll to "sleep" thru the poisoning, but her body was entombed in the family barrow for a few millenia. She was freed from the tomb and the enchantment by an Argonian who was hiding from some Falmer. My character walked out of the tomb and was swept over a large waterfall near Darkwater Crossing.

I'm a Witcher, I hunt monsters. Be they monsters in the shape of men or the more regular things. There is also times when peope mistake me for a blind killer, that is not my business. I will not kill a "monster" that is more civilised than the men who want it dead (you know what I'm talking about). And I avoid most affairs involving men. I came to skyrim at the behest of Titus Mede II, who wanted me to ensure that his friend High King Torygg was safe from his people's wrath after the white-gold concordat. (Despite my clear distinction of profession my reputation as a manslayer stays many hands) Unfortunately the High King chose to accept Ulfric's challenge and bade me not to intervene. Elisif blamed me for his death and told me to leave. Fate had an odd plan for me though, for as I was making my way toward the border, I found myself in the company of Ulfric, The Kingslayer. Before I could act imperials captured all of us and dragged us to helgen. I've decided to stay and clear my name by killing Ulfric Stormcloak.

Merihem is a Bosmer Ranger, he set out from Valenwood years ago, to see Tamriel, he left for Cyrodiil first, then up to Hammerfell, then back across through Cyrodiil to get to Black Marsh, then up into Morrowind, and now finds himself in Skyrim, originally he wanted to visit Skyrim for it's vast wildlife and untouched tundras and dungeons, but has now been coiled up in Skooma dealing and Thievery..

A very, very, VERY short backstory on Merihem :)

Respect to you Sir, you've earned it.

And what I actually meant with "away from TES lore" were RP characters that has nothing to do with TES lore at all. But credits due, gotta love all of em backstories. :D

The whole '200 years since' timeline doesn't excite me and doesn't affect the game. The whole Altmer invasion could have happened in the last few years. Since I never tackled the Oblivion main quest I'm assuming some other dudes closed all the gates and killed the dark prince. As far as I'm concerned my Oblivion character, a notorious ne'er-do-well, just slipped across the border from Bruma last week and got his ass arrested.

Brass Tower walks - Numidium awakes
Time is reshaped - The changing of an Era or the Warp in the West
When the thrice-blessed fail - Tribunal falls
Red Tower trembles - Red Mountain's collapse
Dragonborn ruler loses his throne - The sacrifice of Martin Septim or the abandonment of Talos
White Tower falls - Empire begins to crumble
Snow Tower lies - Skyrim's civil war
World-Eater awakes, the wheel turns to the last Dragonborn

I've convinced myself that I will be following in the footsteps of Tiber Septim.
From my study of Alduin's wall, I believe it is less of a prophecy about the World-Eater's return, and more of a prophecy of the Dragonborn's fate.
Numidium and I will conquer the Elves, I will be the next Talos.

My character is the son of Sheogorath (Hero of Cyrodil) and a skullery maid from Bravil. He was gifted with an affinity for magic so he ventured north seeking the College of Winterhold since the University had been shut down by the Thalmor. Soon after he crossed the border into Skyrim a guard from Bravil had caught up to him and accused him of stealing. Apparently he had picked up a fork in the inn. For that, he had to pay with his blood.

So what's yours?

My characters who do not follow the Lore (for that I refer to the MQ, Factions tend to be Lore Neutral) usually follow a story of a Fish Out of Water. They do not seek adventure and danger, it finds them. They usually walk around with a "Why Me, why can't someone else do this?" kind of feeling. Only they have to get involved as they are haunted by an event that happened in their youth where someone did not help them and their parents died because of it. It is not guilt so much as a sense of "Never Again" will someone who can't help themselves not get help.

The good thing about this is I can role an evil or apathetic character from the same back story.

I'm playing as Tavari, a wood elf that grew up in Morrowind. She was killed during an attack by the Thalmor and her whole village has been exterminated. She was brought back to life by an mysterious force. She came to Skyrim to find the survivors from the attack so they can fight the Thalmor. Eventually she's going to find out about her revival and why they're after her.

I'm pretty far with my RP now. Later, she became cursed and has to follow a demon's orders.

Anyways, I like it, though it doesn't seem very conflicting with lore.

I'm going with the Mythic Dawn. No idea how they got the Elder Scroll though.

I actually JUST started a new character. He's Batman... in Medieval times. He wears a modified Nightengale armor and fights crime (usually by night). I just purchased Proudspire Manor and I plan on building a fully functional "batcave" under it. (Once the CK is out... I started doing it via the console... but it's too much work that way so I only made a small portion of it). Eventually I will also create NPC versions of the Joker and Bane (and others) along with custom quests.

For now, he just fights crime, charms women and is looking for a sidekick.

Whoever I choose to marry will be retooled as a butler/maid of sorts (to replace Albert). My campanion will either be Robin(Nightwing) or Batgirl (I'm leaning towards Batgirl... if I go that route, I'll have "Nightwing" as an MPc or alternate companion)

I play as a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Qd_IsxgAf8 and fight the reptile people. :run:
