I thought the boxing gloves were supposed to be NON-LETHAL?

Post » Tue Mar 29, 2011 11:29 pm

Because for some reason, despite the weapon being claimed as non-lethal and only dealing fatigue/K.O. damage, it still kills people when I beat the crap out of them with it.

I thought they were only supposed to knock enemies unconscious? (I did this on Human enemies and friendlies/NPCs as well, just to test it out and mess around. Same results.)

Am I doing something wrong or is this another bug/glitch?

It should say the character is incapacitated if it is an actual non lethal weapon

Except this is a game and as far as I know, the boxing gloves aren't suppose to kill in this game, only knock them unconscious.

It should say the character is incapacitated if it is an actual non lethal weapon

That's the thing, it didn't. It just took all their health down and killed them.

Am I supposed to have some special perk to knock them out? Or am I supposed to sneak and then hit them or something?

Some tips would help.

I haven't tried this yet, but I found boxing hand wrap yesterday, and the description said that it converts hp damage to fatigue damage. Maybe you need to wrap your hands.

That's weird, if they never fall unconscious. It will do a small amount of damage btw.
But if you knock them out and keep hitting them they'll die.

Yeah, it is weird. It never did knock them out. I think it's because my S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats and Unarmed stat are too high. (S.P.E.C.I.A.L. is maxed out, all 10 and Unarmed is 100.)

I tried using that too after I bought it from a Merchant in Goodsprings and it still doesn't K.O. them.

I think the problem is either that my stats/skills are too high or this is a svcky glitch.

To see more details on my problem, please see/read this topic: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/959557-fallout-new-vegas/56835945 (My username on there is Mister_Epic. You only need to read my posts, unless you want to read the whole topic.)

Thanks in advance if anyone can help me resolve this.

They work fine for me. They do a small very amount of normal damage + a bonus of fatigue damage. While hitting people with them, they lose health, but will usually be knocked unconcious before they die.

It makes sense, imo.

Yeah, I'm guessing they don't get knocked out because I'm too powerful. All they do is lose health. It only takes two or three hits for an NPC to die for me currently.

I think Bethesda really needs to patch this up after release the upcoming patch. Perhaps they should change it so that the gloves don't take any health away at all and does only Fatigue Damage/Cripples limbs and knocks them out. This way powerful players aren't penalized.

... are you sure K.O. isn't a special move, like the golf club's 'fore?'

Edit: Nevermind, I figured out how to do the special moves, but they still die anyways and won't be knocked out. What the Hell?

Also, there is no "K.O." special move in V.A.T.S. when I checked. (I'm using the Golden Gloves. I don't have the regular boxing gloves anymore.)

Any solutions? Otherwise, I think this may need a patch and Bethesda or Obsidian should look into this and test this out themselves.

What Obsidian or Bethesda should do is load up the game/test model andmax out all of their S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats and max out their unarmed and see what happens so they can see where I'm coming from and what happens.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. I shouldn't be penalized for being too powerful. I should still be able to knock out an enemy or friendly NPC with an Unarmed stat of 100...

I really do hope that someone from Bethesda or Obsidian checks this topic and looks into this, because it really should be, even if it is a minor thing to some. This isn't gamebreaking and can wait for the patch after next, but I'd like to see it rectified soon so I can properly roleplay and go about my business without having to kill some characters if I absolutely don't have to or need to.

It only ruins it for me just a wee bit. Otherwise, I'm having fun with this game and loving it. I haven't encountered too many bugs or glitches so far. Just that and the bug/glitch where sometimes when my character stops walking, he autowalks/slides in whatever direction I stop until I move the anolog stick again or jump. Weird.

But yeah, can we get a Bethesda or Obsidian representative in here eventually to check on this and test it out? It could be part of the next patch or the one after that. It's worth looking into if you ask me.

I was hoping to see some sort of tranq-gun weapon, now that KO is an option, but I suppose that is not meant to be. Gloves are the only (bugged) KO weapons?

Having the same problem but with the cattle prod.

I've tried doing the VATS move that says " Lights out " but it either damages or kills them.

I don't think they have tranquilizer guns in this game, but don't quote me on that. My collector's edition strategy guide hasn't come in yet.

Well, let me put it like this when it comes to the gloves: It seems that people with a LOW unarmed skill stat can hit an NPC a bunch of times and knock them out without killing them. But once you get your unarmed stat REALLY high or to 100, you can only deal out less hits with the boxing gloves because you are too strong and do too much damage, thus killing them. I don't know if that was intentional or not, but because of how powerful I am, I can never knock them out. They just die.

But for now, I guess we could say the boxing gloves and other such non-lethal unarmed weapons are bugged unless we find out it is intentional from the mouth of the horse itself.

I knew I wasn't alone and was right. I tried using the Golden Gloves in VATS using the "Cross" and "Uppercut" moves and, like with what you did, it only damages or kills them.

So it looks like the gloves aren't the only weapons having that problem.

Has anyone tested the bean bag ammo for the shotgun and see if it does the same as the cattle prod and boxing gloves?

To Bethesda and Obsidian: This is REALLY worth looking into, fixing and including into your next patch.

The way I see it, and bare in mind I'll not be playing the game until lunchtimeish, if you are wanting to take a non violent approach to the game, why are you investing points in the only skills that have the non lethal weapons? It stands to reason that if you have a high skill in unarmed that the boxing gloves will become lethal, same with the cattle prod and melee, even with lower skill levels if you continue to beat on the guy he will die.

Actually, it's not a COMPLETELY non-violent approach. I intend to kill a fair bit of enemies and people. It just depends on what the situations are. In general, I like to take a neutral approach for the most part, but sometimes I'd rather save someone or not hurt them at all.

You're wrong about one thing: I never did state that I only invested points in unarmed. ALL of my skills points are maxed out at 100 and ALL of my S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats are maxed out at 10.

So, it's not like I'm going for anything super specific here. I just like to have a non-violent approach available for when the need calls for it or I feel like it. And to that end, I'd like to be able to simply knock some folks out instead of killing them , where we didn't have that luxury in Fallout 3.

Either ways, it IS worth looking into patching nonetheless.

Looks like the patch was already released. That was pretty fast. I do hope it fixes a good bit of stuff. I've heard that it makes VATS freeze, however. (I hope that insn't true.)

Here's to hoping they will solve this glitch/bug with the non-lethal weapons and other new bugs that have been mentioned in the next patch.

Actually, it works for me.

Also, you deliberarty cheated in the game (Only way you could have these stats). I'm sorry to say, but the bug report is not really viable.

Can anyone else confirm this happening who isn't breaking the game?

Well, on my first level unarmed character, I was apparently killing Geckos with boxing gloves (Unarmed skill 34). What was weird is that the death wasn't instantaneous. I knocked the gecko out, walked around a corner, and then my screen went into slow motion kill mode as the thing fell through the map.

[Intelligence/Logic] One guy already reported the same happening to him with the Cattle Prod. So yes, this is still viable for a fix as far as I'm concerned, if they look into it, reproduce it and test it themselves.

What does it mater that I edited my stats? It isn't game breaking, as the game still functions. I didn't make myself completely invincible. All I did was maxed out my S.P.E.C.I.A.L. and duplicated my Skill Books. Everything else (HP, AP, Carry limit, Equipment, Items, Etc.) is all normal.

Don't be a hypocrite. Especially if you have the PC version, as you can use MODS, CONSOLE/TERMINAL COMMANDS and I think the G.E.C.K. thing to CHEAT your character. I'm not saying you do cheat your character or have the PC version, but you can and EASILY do so if you did. (It's harder on the Xbox 360.) All I did was max out said stats. I still take damage, can still be killed and etc. Also, this game isn't multi-player and it doesn't affect YOU, so I don't see the problem here.

As far as I know, Bethesda doesn't mind modding and even seems to approve of it as they offer mods on here themselves, from what I hear... (G.E.C.K. and etc.)

Even then, it's MY game and I have the right to play it how I want. It's not like I'm a hacker (Far from it) or like I'm trying to change the very architecture and structure of the game itself.

[Strength] Next time, get rid of the snarky attitude, hostility and speak to me as a normal/non-hostile and non-sarcastic person. I'll be more than happy to discuss or debate this with you then. Peace be with you.
