I thought this game had level scaling?

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 8:11 am

I'm at level 20, with perks in archery, alteration and restoration. I never sneak. I haven't crafted anything. And I'm overpowered as hell. When I once 2-shot a troll, I thought hey, maybe I should bump it to master difficulty, which I did. I'm still too strong. I'm facing enemies that have the same power they had when I was level 5. So where is the level scaling, because I really need challenge back in my game.

Level scaling in this game makes you encounter more powerful enemies. You'll encounter the more powerful Frost Trolls instead of standard Trolls, Draugr Scourges instead of Restless Draugrs and so on. At level 40 a Draugr is a one hit kill, but you encounter mostly the more powerful variants.

What difficulty are you on?

I have never liked level scaling, but on Master. there are creatures out there if you wander about that can kill you with almost one blow.

As I said, I bumped it up to master when things got trivial, but it's still too easy, and looks to be getting worse. Also, the Ranger perk is very overpowered as it allows me to kite with little effort and no one other than ranged can touch me.

I really hope BGS makes good on their promise to balance the game come January.

If you're entering dungeons or pre-rendered areas of the game (such as the climb up the 7,000 steps to High Hrothgar), the game sets the pace at whatever level you first visited the area in, allowing you to feel stronger when you return because the enemies don't scale. Try exploring some areas of the map that you haven't been to at all, and you'll see that enemies have scaled up to meet your level.

Or if this is true (I'm not sure, I haven't heard this anywhere else), start over at Master difficulty.

Wait until you face one of the Master necromancers or some other dungeon bosses. They are usually easy to kill, but can kill you just as fast.

I've heard it a number of times and from my personal experience, it seems to be true.

And people complain that there's TOO MUCH level scaling.

There are going to be certain places that will tear you a new one at certain levels, and there will be places that are cake walks. Generally speaking, the outside world is more tame than dungeons, so exploration is slightly safer. You'll still run into sabre cats and bears at level 3, get mauled by frost trolls in their areas, and have other challenges. If you're going around in the same areas over and over again, you might not run into much difficulty, so it might be better to explore other areas, like the glacial waters to the north, the Rift, and the molten tundra. I tend to find more difficult enemies in those areas.

Well most of the perks in the game is overpowered If you're on the PC you can use commands to remove those perks. Also don't use those overpowered weapons and armor that you created.
