Thoughts about Fallout Online & The story

Hey,

I read previous posts but I either missed it or nobody answered it, Plus I think it could stress the issue if there was a thread about how important the lore is.
I am very excited about a Fallout on-line game and at the same time I'm afraid things are going to change upside down like it did with WoW where to many the wonderful story of the world became enslaved to game mechanics and wishes of 5yr olds. (Please don't start a debate about WoW, just making a point)
I think Fallout 3 served to some degree to brake some of the Lore and introduce new elements I wasn't fond of, It's awesome seeing the game you love in 3D but as the numerous "Classic" mods and "Original Fallout" mods show us a lot of people thought they might have missed the mark.
I think what makes fans of Fallout stand from the rest (especially b4 Fo3) is that they are RPG fans mostly and the story and how you tell it is going to have a massive effect on those fans.
Personally I would love a game focused on the lore and staying true to it.

After giving you my thoughts about Fallout here comes the questions...
1. Will the game stay true to the timeline & lore already set by previous game and the Fallout bible?
2. How will the story be told to the player?
3. Will the world be moving to certain events? or will the player need to solve some current crysis?
4. Will players and outcome of some events have any effect on the way things go?

I think games like WAR had the right idea regarding questing and story telling including world events, public questing is truly awesome.
I think telling the story and keeping people interested will have a big effect on this game and prevent it from becoming a mindless grinding game.

Thanks for everyone time for reading, I'd love to hear some answers if you know them and of course opinions of my fellow players. :geek:

I agree part of the appeal of this series is all of the little extras. From the fallen over nuka cola truck to the crashed alien spaceship with a ray gun. Keeping lore intact is great and i imagine that the developers will expand on what we know and love.

I am really hoping that this is something we will learn next year sometime. Hopefully some good mechanisms are developed by which to convey the 'story' of the game to the players. Image

I love the story of Fallout 1 (Fallout 2 and game-that-not's-allowed-to-be mentioned not so much) and on those grounds I defintely would like to see Fallout Online stay strong to an overarching well thought out, morally complex story like Fallout 1. Ultimately though it is an MMO and that means the developers can only either control the story direction of the world in general or force players to all play the same story, and the community/market has to try and indicate which option it prefers.

Before the Fallout 2 die-hards attack me, I still enjoyed the story but in both the Enclave seemed to be strawmen bad guys in 3 more so than 2 but we're not bad mouthing anyone Why do games studios have to fight and die? War, war never changes : (
