Thoughts on Radiant Story?

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 10:41 am

In my opinion, the game would be no worse if it was completely removed. I don't see how a mechanic that randomly generates fetch quests was worth ever getting excited about?

I heard that the factions' quests were originally planned to all be done by Radiant Story but they later decided to change it (thank Akatosh), and that is the main reason why the factions ended up being pretty short.

If there was a grand trade off that would sacrafice all miscellaneous quests for longer, better faction lines i would take it in a heartbeat. Would you?

I don't think it was a bad addition, but I also don't see whats so great about it. In theory it should add a bit more mystery to the game, but in practice it just makes more of it feel like random leg work.

What I don't understand is why they would brag about a random quest generator.

Because they said it was gonna be awesome.
It was going to be something like, the game would remember where you had been and what you had done, and assign a quest based on that, making every playthrough different.

Instead its exactly like Daggerfall quests.
Not bad I suppose, but still, nothing to write home about either.

I don't think the game would be better without it and it does have a little replayability.

I generally felt let down by it really...

255 hours into it with my character has broken lots of radiant quests...

Yeah, the random go to x and do y is okay... But it feels empty, and it's nothing to look forward to. I guess I mean to say it takes away the depth.

I didn't know that originally they were supposed to be full radiant... That would have been disappointing. I like a good story.

Yes. And more side quests.

The radiant story is way more than just those template quests like "Kill the bandit leader. X marks the spot." and whatnot. It is what is happenIng next, like what is going to spawn on the road up ahead and more.

Hello there, Grappa's Hammer. How are you?

The radiant story is way more than just those template quests like "Kill the bandit leader. X marks the spot." and whatnot. It is what is happenIng next, like what is going to spawn on the road up ahead and more.

Are you sure about that? Even if that's true, Radiant story is so unimpressive. It's like a dash of grey in a grey sky.

it was also supposed to have a feature that lets say you kill the quest giver (a shop owner) his sister may take over the shop, and possibly hire thugs to kill you if she found out. But i havent seen anything remotely in practice.

Also "friends of yours" were suppose to give you quests as well. If you befriended someone, theres a chance they would ask you to save their kid, instead of a random

I like it. I was never excited about it, it's just a feature, but I like it. It has me go explore certain areas I never would have otherwise.

Yeah I got one of my early characters to level 50 doing nothing but radiant quests. Its not great by any means, but it should stay in the game.

I'm not a fan of the random quest generator. It makes the guilds feel like they're full of filler. The radiant system also leads to broken quests if you happen to kill a certain bandit chief or dragon, or looting certain items prior to getting the quest. Once in a while, a dungeon will re-populate, but I've been sent to go kill dragons that I've previously slain, and they won't respawn, leading to a broken quest. As it is, I don't enter any dungeons/dragon lairs unless specifically sent there on a quest.

I feel the same as a lot of people here. It sounded like a cool idea when they were talking about it but honestly I've only seen it happen for me a couple times.
And I liked talking to the NPC and having time stop.

I would hate walking up to an NPC and talking to him, sometimes getting into an interesting conversation just going through all his dialogue. And then... before I know it!
It's night time, and the shops are closed. Now I gotta wait another 12 hours.
Also, the random dragon attacks didn't help either while in conversation.

I know it's not realistic to have time completely freeze when talking to them. But... We're fighting Dragons with enchanted weapons we got from Daedric Princes with some talking cats and lizards.
Also, does anyone agree with me that the facial expressions were a LOT better in Oblivion?
