thread count - fixed?

Post » Tue Mar 01, 2011 6:27 am

Does anyone know if the issues we saw in FO3 with threads beyond 2 has been squashed? I'd like to know if I can allow NV to use all four HW threads :)

For those who are unaware of this, if you notice frequent inexplicable crashing - find the NV equivalent of FALLOUT.INI.

Under the [General] Section, add or modify to this:
iNumHWThreads=2

EVEN if you have more than 2! The problem (in FO3 at least) was that it had 'issues' using more than that. Setting this to 2 when you have only one core might do nothing. If you have more than 2, it caps it, and fixes (that) bug.

I'd wonder how the mods would fix a code problem :P

Yes, at least for some crashes. Before this tweak, I would generally crash within half an hour (usually after 15-20 minutes).

After entering this line, those crashes were gone. Only mod-related crashes (I narrowed it down to a specific monster's dying) after that.

On my system:
C:\Users\draeath\Documents\My Games\Fallout3

This should be true for Vista and Windows 7. Change your username as required.

See my above post. It won't be in your Steam folder.

You could also do a system-wide search for FALLOUT.INI - it's on your drive -somewhere-

i tried this fix a year and a half ago.

it didnt work at all. the game crashes all the time...it cant and wont be fixed....although...maybe a new round of pc crashes for new vegas will make the devs finally admit theres a problem and do something about it....but i doubt it.

hopefully it works for you guys

It's an INI. Make sure you arn't hiding extensions.

If it's an INF or CFG, you've got the wrong file.

Your saves folder should be with it.

Yea its a Config Settings and doesnt say Ini but im sure it is. It has all the codes like you showed in the first post so i figured thats where it should go. I put it there and so far so good, earlier today i was freezing at the same point and made it through there after the add no problem. Thanks a lot man! Ill be sure to give this to my dad lol i got him hooked on the game.

Make sure. There are two other files with the same syntax, and it only works when it's in the right one.

EDIT:

Here. This has more info about the file and where to find it (and tons of other tweaks)
