Is it too much to ask for an update?

I just counted 12 threads on the front page on this widespread issue.

Widespread issue for many, yes. Take Microsofts two week + certification process, and it could be the middle/end of November.

Thats just the way it is unfortunately. I'd like to think in this case it would come much faster, but it probably wont.

If their certification process is 2 weeks long, then how did we get an update 48 hours after the game was out? I don't buy it, that's a cheap developer excuse imo

I don't know. Perhaps they had that patch ready - a safety net so to speak. It also might not have been as complex as the one they need to work on now. But usually their verification takes around two weeks - I might even be wrong on that, but it is around that timeframe.

There was a patch for The Pitt within hours.

I don't buy that 2 week crap.

There is a gap between the time software is sent for release and the time it is released. Many layers to cross. What may seem like an immediate patch release to you really was initiated long ago.

Normally, if the software has a must ship date there is a drop dead date for the golden master to go to production. This can be weeks before the initial release. Meanwhile even though the master has gone to pressing, work continues on bugs with every intention to release a patch on the release date. This buys the developer time. It seems to me, in this case, every issue could not be patched by release date and a partial patch was issued.

Welcome to public beta testing!

Exactly. I respect the developer who answers the question, " When will it be out?" with "When it is done."
Only then do I know they have a passion to deliver the best product they can.

Diablo 3 and Gran Turismo 5 come to mind almost immediately.

I agree, I know a lot of people would have been angry with a delay but this game seems like it was rushed towards the end and definetely should have been delayed

Ok, so after getting this error about 2 days ago (and being enormously frustrated) during my 15th hour of play, I was lost at what to do. My last nearest save was @ 8 hours and I had a lot of different things I did.

I decided to jump back in there, retrace my steps and figure out if I can retrigger this error but in a more controlled manner. So starting at the 8th hour I replayed all the stuff, up to and including Vault 3 (which I am guessing is where my error stemmed from) while also actually getting a lot more gear, caps and levels. Just on the side, my first time around I had ~ 700 caps after buying stuff, the 2nd time around (post anolysis of error) I am at 3900 caps....so I am actually better off rofl. Anyways, as I played I had 3 save files at all times, I would swap between Auto save/manual save and then have the third save open for whenever I entered areas.

As I got to Vault 3, the "source" for a lot of errors, I saved manually in slot 3, and kept slots 2/auto for vault three and only vault 3. I played all the way through, killed everyone I could and got to moto runner and killed him. Now I don't recall where I read this but I had seen someone write that the "REVERSE PULSE CLEANER" http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Reverse_Pulse_Cleaner could be a potential threat. So I saved my game (Slot 2) before I grabbed the pulse cleaner, grabbed the cleaner, saved my game AGAIIN (in a new slot) then had an auto save (So I had 3 saves, 2 after pulse, one before). I kept running around and doing things, I tried to swim under water and ended up drowning. No biggie right? I''ll reload...not! Lo and behold DLC error. I tried to load the save (2) BEFORE the pulse cleaner pick up, ALSO DLC ERROR. I tried to load the save BEFORE vault 3 (3) BINGO! I replayed the whole vault 3, did NOT grab the pulse cleaner and have had no problems so far (continued forward to Camp McCrarren) and am running strong.

So, in summary, the pulse cleaner, which is needed for the quest http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Still_in_the_Dark could be the cause of this bug. I am assuming if you are not on the quest (which I wasn't at the time) it will crash game saves etc. I might go back after I do a bunch of stuff and see what happens and perhaps repost, but so far this is the one point I have anolyzed that can cause the DLC error. Happy Hunting!

The problem is that we are dealing with a patch Devs picking up that phrase now is just plain stupid now. They coulda said that all they wanted before the game came out, before they had my money and where laughing say those idoits they bought it ha ha now lets take a month to fix the game. That makes me respect the developer PRE-LAUNCH after launch in the current state the game is in they need to set some hard dates and keep them. I honestly feel scammed like buying insurance for a boat when i have none.

sorry but i think your theory is wrong because the stupid DLC error has happened to me 4 different times on four separate locations on separate random times. it usually triggered after i reloaded an auto save shortly after saving.
Here are the locations that happened to me

1. Gun runners at the kiosk
2. big tops casino in the lobby
3. Michaelangelo's in the repair room
4. Black mountain in the jail room

i have lost over 175 hours of game play it is so frustrating. Ive decided not to play again until they patch it.
in conclusion i dont believe it is triggered by a certain quest or location though i could be wrong im just trying to help Bethesda.

Tons of threads are made about it - and not just here, on every forum!

and yet Bethesda/Obsidian still says it's a "minor issue" experienced by "a small number of users"

while you are right, and there are other reasons that this DLC error could occur, I am merely stating one area of where I KNOW it occurs. If you find other areas, try doing some testing, and I appreciate your candor, I wasn't saying this was the sole reason, but a reason nonetheless.

You should avoid anything Obsidian makes. Every game is a train wreck, not just NV.

I love the game...that is until I was hit with this Download Content etc bug...now none of my save game files work...33 hours down the drain - such a shame. I have said I will give them 2 weeks before I take the game back. Please hurry up with a fix. Official statement says to use a prior save game - no thanks, im not going back 17 hours.
