I've been playing F:NV for a while on the PC, haven't had that many problems, aside from a few small glitches and some annoying crash to desktops here and there usually once every 3-4 hours.

Ever since I first installed F:NV and Steam with it, I turned off Steam Friends and Steam Community in the Steam options menu, because I didn't want annoying popups when I played. Recently however, I turned them both back on because I kinda' wanted achievements to pop up, what can I say I'm a svcker for flattery after all I guess.

Well... Lo and behold, I have not had a crash to desktop since after 40~ hours of gameplay.

I remember noticing that whenever I crashed I'd spot that Steam was just finished downloading an update for Left 4 Dead (only other game I had on Steam at the time), but now that I have Steam Community activated it just pops up a message while I play and it keeps on ticking, could be a coincidence I guess but hey.

So there it is, it works excellent for me, try it yourself if you've deactivated them.

I need to try that. I've only had 3 crashes to the desktop, but it's still aggravating when you're in the middle of an intense deathclaw brawl. Thanks for the tip.

Here's my two cents for what it's worth. I owned a Core 2 Duo powered PC without ANY issues playing Fallout 3 at all. No bugs, no crashes, nothing at all even investing 100 hours of time with it. After upgrading to a quad core though I noticed constant freezing so I limited the available HW threads in the .ini. Instead of freezing, every so often I'd get a CTD and that's basically identical to what happens with NV. I suspect something doesn't work correctly when mulch-threading is enabled and hopefully they correct this

I had steam enabled all the way through my game. I didn't really get any crashes until the 40 hour mark or so. Not sure this has anything to do with steam.

I think half of my crashes are Steam related and I always have the Friends list up and running. Once I get back to the desktop there is usually a popup that was not there when I started the game.

That's what happened to me before I re-enabled Steam Community and Steam Friends.

I'm not saying 100% for sure it's related, I'm not saying 100% for sure Steam is the reason I used to crash, but I never crash anymore which I am sooooooo happy about. So I wanted to share the tip in case it helped other people.
