Tips on how to start my Mage?

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 11:36 pm

I am planning on using Illusion, Conjuration, Archery, Sneak, and Enchanting as my main skills on master difficulty. I plan on placing most of my points in Magicka and very little in stamina (maybe on 5).

I just want to know how to start the game, not how to play it ect.

I really would like to know where I should go to get some decent enchantments, staffs, bows, spells, armor and a safe storage after I have left Helgen.

So far my plan is (in no order) to get the elven bow in whiterun (is the imperial bow better btw?), get the Fiery Souls enchantment, be rewarded the dark brotherhood armor (mostly for the gloves and boots), get the Staff in Winterhold (forgot the name) that causes creatures and humans up to level 8 to flee (will this be effective at all?) and get the Thalmor robes along the path between Helgen and Whiterun.

I don't have a set plan on what I will do with this character. I usually do whatever I feel like doing but I would like some good early gear/equipment to start me off.

So any tips? Also, sorry for the lazy post, just very tired now.

Imperial bow is steel quality (at least, that is what it uses to upgrade at the grindstone), so Elven would be better.
Safe storage, join College, the room you get is safe, or Thieve's Guild, the Guild Chests are safe.
Novice robes would be better than Thalmor, due to magicka regen bonus. Joining the College nets you a free Novice Robes of Destruction.
I've never heard of the 'Fiery Souls' enchantment. What and where is it?

Fiery Souls is one of the few dual enchants like the magick regen+reduced spell cost. Fiery Souls gives you fire damage and soul trap in one enchantment.
As for the staff Ninja, i'd might be useful if you get it early on but not for very long i dont think.

Oh and anything fleeing is a bad idea IMO, in my experience if something flees it generally brings back buddies and if you flee those they bring back more buddies. I'd go for calm or fury instead.

Any other tips? Joining the winterhold is kinda common sense, even for a newbie because many NPCs direct you there.

Also I think I will still get that staff of fear to protect me from saber tooths and wolves (I don't like sneaking the whole way across the map).

I really would like to know where some great staffs are to help me in the beginning because of my mana pool.
