Tired of all the graphics topics

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 8:47 am

90 % of all the post are about how the game looks.....the graphics look fine for me but when ever I look side to side with the mouse it seems like I am in the middle of an earthquake....so WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM???...I have read people say they use a controller to solve it....that seems stupid to me...why should I have to go buy a controller for a pc to get a playable game....I have the Oblivion disc in my computer and when I get tired of dragons I go close some gates and the mouse works fine with Oblivion so what the hell did they do wrong in this game...

They ported it straight from the Xbox without taking the time to configure it to the PC, thats what they did wrong.

sounds like you have Mouse Acceleration enabled..

you should probably go to your skyrimprefs.ini and look for it, make sure to set it to 0

Make sure that both the Controller and the Rumble are disabled.

this has been a problem since day one with this game.....it has improved in the up and down movement and x y movement has gotten better but still far from desirable...especially inside caves. I am running on a laptop with the cheapest mouse I could find because I hate touch pads...and like I said it works fine with Oblivion

both rumble and controller disablled.

There was a thread about it a week or two back, everyone that reported in with the problem had an AMD card. So this seems to be an issue with AMD Catalyst drivers, no idea when it will be fixed if ever. It doesn't bother me too much personally, I've been playing in 3rd person mode and liking it tremendously.

The game works fine with mouse tweaks but yes, by default it was setup for a Xbox controller since they didn't even have much time to make it mouse and keyboard friendly proper and the UI, well that says it all.

Found the solution in another thread about going into ccc and limiting frame rate.....the suggestion was 50 but I could only limit it to refresh rate which is 60....it did however make a big difference......ccc is an old version...came with computer 2 years ago.....tried to update it once but newer version for some reason didn't recognize my widescreen moniter.....anyway thanks for all the input

Mouse support in this game is terrible.....to be clear in my case I didn't go out and buy a controller I already had one. I wouldn't have purchased one just to play skyrim because they fail to address the peripherals that will be interacting with their game.

Is it better with a controller?? It would seem weird to play a 1st person game with a gamepad on a PC because I haven't tried that since trying out a 360 controller with Oblivion (felt too rescrictive, no hotkeys, etc.) I think I've still got one lying around someplace...

On the "up" side, the fact that they designed the interface more for console/gamepad than keyboard and mouse, might mean it plays better with the gamepad. I mean, I can't even hotkey certain weapon/shield combos, or potions, etc. anyway...

Favorites menu pauses the gameplay.....hotkeys would be better but crappy movement and menu interface is worse in my opinion.

It's not better with a controller it's just setup for one because it's a XBox port. Mouse tweaks are fine and it's mainly mouse acceleration that's the issue which can be fixed by just disabling it in the ini.

A lot of people (including me) run Skyrim with a controller and it's excellent. There's a fair amount of snobbery from "hard core" PC users about controllers but Skyrim is a game that plays very well with one.

About the UI issues, try the SkyUI mod and you'll never go back.

to each their own....

i just couldn't stand playing a game like this with a controller.. get frustrated enough using a controller on the consoles for games like these...

feels like i'm driving a brick because of how sluggish and unresponcive a joystick is compared to mouse and keyboard.

it's about speed and precision.

The only games i typically play with a controller is racing games because a mouse/keyboard really have no place.

Srsly I laugh at people who play Skyrim like its an MMO...enjoy the fact that you can pause combat and change out stuff. If you want real time play SWTOR etc.

It's plays well with one because it was designed that way but controllers are crap for such games, they just made it easier for such users by various methods.

Edit: Gah, typos tonight.

Gah, I really don't know why PC users get so argumentative about controllers. It's like you're scum if you use one. I look with bemusemant on the warring console brigade ("Your Gaystation is rubbish", "you're a Micro$oft devoted fan" etc etc) and this is much the same.

I stand by my point that Skyrim and a controller are a fine combination. If you want to use a controller, then it'll work well for you. If you want to use a keyboard and mouse, then that will also work well for you. On the PC, I've played Just Cause 2 and Batman AA with a controller and it's been great. I get moderate RSI and a controller helps with this enormously.

It's a matter of personal preference. Saying that "controllers are crap for such games" is like saying "purple is better than blue".

Well nobody played FPS games with controllers until Microsoft forced their controller system on to PC gamers and then devs couldn't even be arsed to use DirectX for input. the only reason people play with controllers is because the ported games are so setup with the Xbox controller, otherwise they're poor.

If you want to pay games with one then fine but you'll find the whole controller issue was forced on PC gamers via the Xbox platform and why people feel more comfortable with them on a PC.
