Tis' the season?

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 2:28 pm

What do you guys think the chances are that we see seasonal foliage in the game before its all said and done? I'm hoping that this comes in maybe the 1.7 update, if there is one.

I think about it every time I ride through the Rift. How cool would it be for the trees to be green, then red, orange, and yellow, then bare and have snow falling.

This and also they should bring back holidays (not like Christmas, but the ones that are in lore). I'd love to be walking along and hear "Happy hearts day," or "you better get home before sundown, for tonight is Tales and Tallows."

Would be cool, but I am not expecting it.
I would think it would put a big strain on the game's already taxed processes.

Considering they did make it in the game-jam it's extremely possible to be added in as a update or with another expansion pack.

i agree seems pretty likely, with all the other game jam content they're adding in between DLC and updates

I would like to see seasonal foliage.
Also in Winter the colder areas could have really deep snow for a few 'day's' to make mountain passes impassable etc.
It would be good to have to think "I will need to come back when the weather clears". Also a potential use for "clear skies shout".

It would be nice to see what the northern parts of Skyrim look like in the summer :) (For I assume it's the winter that is shown. Even arctic regions have summer, albeit short.)

When I first noticed the seasons changing in Daggerfall, I was astounded and enchanted. I've wanted seasons back ever since.

Tell me about it. Combining that with holiday celebrations (which would take some extra dialog, a little geometry switching, and texture swapout) would breathe so much more life into the worldspace. And it would give a dynamic to the seasons that says 'people live here' that the games since DF have kind of lacked. Celebrations were far more important than they are considered today, and usually more meaningful. Them having to yank the festival lighting in the towns at the last moment was disappointing. It would have been so cool to walk into one of the walled cities and have a lit square and lots of character billboards milling around.......

I don't think it'd work great on consoles, just one more thing for the hardware to handle. I think that this, directional water and the shadow graphic improvements would function better as free dlc like the hd textures.

It's not necessarily a feature that sets my heart aflutter. But to see it snow in Markarth would be interesting.

I'd love it but based upon the timespan of an average player, they would possibly never even see all of the foliage in one playthrough so it would have to be quicker which may contradict lore, but somethings better than nothing :D even just dynamic snow fall that makes a difference whilst traveling would be amazing

i tink it would be possibel, just have 3 or 4 variants of trees with different leaf colors or not having leaves, and to keep the proccessing strain down they can jut have them change when you leave a town instantly asopposed to watching hem shift over time, it wouldn't be as cool but i think it would be less strain on the engine, but i'm far from an expert so i could be wrong

this could also segway in the ability to farm based on seasons (although I'm not sure how much of a use the introduction of farming would bring, it would be help with things like Alchemy).

I don't want seasonal foliage. It would eliminate the distinct look of certain regions. Everywhere would look too samey. I like having the Rift look different compared to the Reach and other places.

Not a lot of games have done seasonal foliage, Lionhead's Fable 2 were going to do that originally and couldn't even do it. Just one of Betheseda's guys did it for the hell of it! Just goes to show how more competent Betheseda is. Anyway, yeah, I would love to see foliage! I wonder how they would do it though. If a certain amount of days would pass and then it would show it all at once, slowly happening. Or slowly over a course of days. I know how seasons work of course, I live here in Maryland and our weather can be whacky lol. But with it being a game, and the fast traveling all the time, leaving days upon days going by the game would have to changes seasons often. Maybe.

Not necessarily true, it would just mean areas would be more in sync, but not the same. Mountainous areas would still retain more snowy regions than say Riverwood during summer.

The Fable series died out after The Lost Chapters was released. Their idea of "having options" died. Fable 3 was an embarassment and Fable: Journey is probably going to be their worst installment of the series yet.
