Todd Howard on DLC and Multiplayer

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 7:01 pm

I didn't see this posted yet. If it is, move along, nothing to see....

http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/11/skyrim-to-have-multiple-dlc-releases-powerful-buckets/

So, apparently, Todd is saying that the DLC will be focused on making Skyrim better instead of being a level pack.

I think a multiplayer alongside the singleplayer is inevitable for TES. They'll probably just make it so you can toggle other players on/off at your whim.

Sounds like Bethesda wants to release the rest of the game as DLC.

Howard couldn't yet share plans for DLC, but he says it will be focused on "ways to make the game better, not just have more, because the game is so big. So we're going through ideas right now, and processing everything people are doing in the game, and trying to think of ways that we can improve it."

That was some good news, except they better not have the audacity to charge for it.

This is very similar to some older news, but nevermind that.
I like how the BGS team seem to be taking the community(the players in general) response to the game more seriously this time around and if they actually plan to improve the game and fix certain things they didn't like much in retrospective with DLC I will be very pleased.

If they "fix" certain things about the game I believe they will "fix":
Destruction so it can be efficiently used at higher levels.
Adding Spell-Making.
Add more creatures.
Just off the top of my head.

Doesn't sound like there will be any new land to explore in the DLC. Just more Skyrim.

Skyrim+ to put it simply.

good question.... probably be drop in drop out, and the guest cant attack quest giving/specific npc's. hopefully though todd never makes TES multiplayer.

And I personally really don't have an issue with "More Skyrim" I hope it means what I think it means but I'll wait to decide, I just wish he'd/They'd stick to one thing.....

"No Making expansion packs took to long and we didnt want to keep our fans waiting, so we like the Fallout 3 DLC model."

"no we don't want to do the DLC model, but more along the lines of Bigger DLC overtime"

"No now we just want to bring in more skyrim"

I think they started to make that possible with those random minor quests. I've already been sent to the same camp to kill the same giant twice. Those sorts of quests seem to respawn so it wouldn't matter how many players are active and doing them.

I know it wouldn't work for any of the main quests but there is some room for multiplayer in the environment outside of those.

I'm looking forward to an Elder Scrolls Online, but multiplayer in Skyrim as it is now? I'm not sure that's even possible. There's obviously a "player bubble", and I'm not sure the game can handle two of those. Also, multiplayer and timeslowing effects à la Matrix don't mix well.

Edit: I really want horse armor in one of the DLCs.

If that means improving the marriage feature and longer guild quests, then I'm in.

I'm thinking by multiplayer it won't necessarily be online, more like side-by-side. I know this is sorta a weird comparison, but if you ever played any of the newer Lego games, I think it would similar to that (split-screen, both don't have to be a certain distance apart, they can be far across the map of each other).

Hopefully that means implementing some sort of spell creation system, and bringing back the ability to jump high. And if Beth ever tries Multi-player in ES, then ES and Beth are dead to me. And then so will RPGs basically.

If that means improving the marriage feature guilds, fine tuning RS since its potential really isnt doing anything at the moment, adding spellmaking, and more joinable then I'm in. hell I'd go so far as to say if they did a Broken Steel to Skyrim in the sense that they alter the begining I'd drop 40$ on that in a heart beat.

I guess we'll see the types of dlcs we did for Fallout3. Like one Broken Steel added a new quest line to the existing game area, while another Point Lookout added a brand new land to explore.

Both sorts are good so I hope they do that sort of stuff for Skyrim.
