Tone down the black smoke on the Ebony mail?

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 7:08 am

Seriously, I'm trying to be sneaky and everything but I can't see a thing when i'm trying to hit someone with a arrow.

I wish the black smoke was only applied to enemies that are actually being poisoned. Cloaking the player in the smoke, aside from ruining your vision entirely, also ruins what in my opinion, is the coolest looking armor in the game.

So yes, tone down the black smoke.

I hate it, tbh. I like the artifact but the smoke just gets in the way.

I dont mind the smoke, as I play in first person, my only problem is that there is a nose whenever an enemy goes within and out of range, meaning it feels like I am getting that sound effect every 30 seconds If i am fighting multiple people.

ya the sound is like your 'enemies near' early warning system. *whooosh* "okay, gotta be carefull". and the smoke makes archery a [censored] i agree. though a minor problem next to some things, i would like it to be changed eventually.

WTH are you ppl talking about? My 1st char was a fighter who did 1/4 his fighting W/Ebony armor. In the first place, I never seen any "smoke" as you describe, and I used an Ebony bow frequently too. However, all this was before patch 1.5. Nor did I have sound effects for ppl going in/out of range.

Secondly, you do know about the armor cap? I discovered that you could achieve max armor W/lighter enchanted Elven armor W/a couple of wearables custom-enchanted for light armor. No need to wear heavy armor, there is no advantage vs. Elven with the proper wearables/enchantments. It did look pretty cool though...

They are talking about Ebony Mail not the plain old Ebony Armor. Ebony Mail is a rare armor that gives off a black smoke effect if enemies are nearby, while you are sneaking.

The Ebony Mail's smoke affects look pretty badass the first few times you try it out. Agreed, you could tone down the smoke( I never had trouble with it when i was using a bow) but it gives it a unique feel to it.

Just wish you could disenchant it.
along side with the magic shield that spots spells or something, the spellbreaker, I think.

You gotta be kidding me... I mean unless your on a crappy plasma screen T.V. or shattered monitor this blinding "smoke" problem is pretty much non-existent. What Bethesda needs to do is focus on these broken quests and bugs rather than fixing things most people don't really care about.

Don't you mean crappy TV. Because my plasma is far from "crappy".

I love it. All of my vampire characters get it. It's really cool when you cast invisibility with it on. You become a spooky black mist floating up behind the enemy. I don't mind it while using a bow. It's like lining up the shot on an 8 Ball and then looking at your opponent as you make the shot. Like Tom at 9:00 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFir1aky5zU&feature=relmfu

No, old man. When I said "a crappy plasma T.V." I was not implying that they were all "crappy". I was merely describing the condition of a plasma that could possibly be causing this "blinding" smoke.

Yeah it is pretty annoying. Yes it is good that Bethesda created an aesthetic difference that goes with the enchantment, but it does ruin the armour for me. The enemies turning pitch black also seems a little strange. Sometimes I wish we could unenchant things without destroying them.

Spoken like a true light armor fanatic with no understand of Heavy Armor! Bow unto the superiority of Heavy Armor!

At least it doesn't make you look like a pansy like that Elven armor does. I'm even an Altmer and I think it looks bad!

Uhhh, so let me get this straight: when you're sneaking around, trying to nab an opponent stealthily, and an enemy gets within your radar, the armor releases dark smoke? I see, very logical. Nobody could predict some loon hiding in that patch of dark smoke floating around unnaturally.

The whole artifact is pretty badly designed.

There's the fact that it's heavy, which will instantly be at odds to anyone who sneaks.
Then of course the aforementioned black smoke that assures you cannot see anything while sneaking.

On most characters I sell the thing or put it on display.

brought this up months ago i belive, as it activates whilst sneaking it makes first person archery damn near impossible, and the whole aspect of it is anoying.

cool concept, bad implimentation, if all they did was remove the smoke and black apearence from the player it would be as awsome as it deserves to be. . .as it stands right now one of the coolest looking armor in the game is gathering dust.

very sad bethesda, very sad :(

Glad it's not just me it annoys, but it's somehow been marked as stolen, so I have it in storage.
