Too hardcoe?

I'm thinking I'm gonna play through without hardcoe, and then go back and do it again the second time around. It would make the game not boring the second time.

it wouldnt be boring the second time anyway.

there are like 5 diffrent paths you can take that we know of
N.C.R
Caesars Legion
M.r House
Lone- Anarchy
Lone-champion

or at least thats what i made of it.

but if the game does start to get stale i guess hardcoe mode would fix that

To each his own. I'm far to eager to use HC mode to wait for a second playthrough. I'll probably do the same thing I did with my 1st complete FO3 character and put 300+ hours into him so that'd be too long to resist.

Playing hardcoe the first time would make the game REALLY "not boring". Just think, you'll need food and water, and since you haven't played before, you'll have no idea where to find any! You'll have no idea whether a direction points to a town with supplies, or an empty desert ready to cradle your dehydrated corpse! Its nerve-racking fun for the whole family!

i have a different view point.

on my first play through i want to be able to experience all i can, and i feel that hardcoe would hinder that.

This. 100%.

Edit: my second play through will be (and of course there's going to be one) for moping up all the stuff I missed and trying a new path/build, none the less. hardcoe mode will be on at all times, but the first play though when you don't know the area is going to replace the "awe" of walking out of the FO3 vault the first time and having no clue of what to do, because now with hardcoe enabled, you have to find a way to survive.

I tend to enjoy doing harder first, then easier just for excitement. Difficulty doesn't make things more interesting for me, so I need to ride novelty. Getting in and just kicking all sorts of butt freshen things up.

I'm going to wait until my second play through to try out hardcoe.

Mainly because I want to be able to experience everything I can, I do not want to be hindered from going somewhere just because I don't have enough water, or food.

It also has to do with that fact that I dont want to walk into a heavily defended area, only to die two seconds later from a mine blow up or a bunch of people shooing at me.

hardcoe does not increase the damage or anything like that, it only makes healing over-time but you can play on Easy with hardcoe enabled if you'd want. I still feel that my character should be limited and not be able to make a 12 day trip into the wastes without food/water. On my first play through I want to be hindered so that I have actual obligations to my character and not just quests. I think it will make the ending more epic when I had to struggle to get to that point.

Edit: it will also give my character a good contrast to the "I spamarz the stimpacks and kill 98 raiders in a row" god mode feel, to have a character that has some weaknesses.

I feel I should point out that hardcoe mode is completely separate from difficulty. Just FYI.

For the record, I'll be playing on hardcoe from the get-go. If it's well implemented I'll probably keep it on forever. If it's stupid, I'll just turn it off. Easy peasy.

He's thinking about playing hardcoe but is feeling it may be too difficult. -> thus maybe for his second play through once he has the ropes.

Well, I still feel, in my opinion at least, hardcoe does raise the difficultly of the game, not necessarily in regards to damage, but it does make you have to work harder in the sense of finding food, water and shelter, and actually think about how you're going to plan out different aspects.

Its going to be much "harder" for people who just run in, guns a blazing and never really give a second thought about tactics

@save the muffin- well it doesn't increase enemy strength or lower yours, but since stimpaks heal over time, i see you point

From what I can see, hardcoe mode is just an attempting to add to the realism, rather than an extra difficulty setting (though it does that too). I like the idea a lot and I'll definitely give it a go, though not decided whether to do so from the start, or leave it a while. I guess I'll see how it plays out.

Anyhoo, if you want a real challenge, and to add to the realism at the same time....then why not try hardcoe mode, and http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1116305-the-five-weapon-backpack-rule/ at the same time . Maybe the new 'ammo has weight' rule will make this a necessity anyway, though I doubt it.

After all, its not possible to lug around a Gatling Laser, a Fat Man, three Combat Shotguns, a Chinese Assault Rifle, a lump of brain, a Crunchy Mutfruit, three Salisbury Steaks, a Virgo II Lunar Lander satellite dish and 94 stimpacks all at once, is it? Is it? :)

I thought about about playing non-hardcoe for my 1st play through. Then I realized that if I start out playing hardcoe right off, odds are pretty good that I'll still be finding new places and people I hadn't seen before on my 20th play through.

I agree with both of these, which is why I'm having a hard time deciding if I want to play HC first time around or not. Obviously I played Fallout 3 to death, so I have a decent idea of how it's played. But dying of thirst in a place where water eludes me simply because I'm new...I don't know. It seems like that could be more frustrating than fun.

This really seems to be a matter of personal preference, but this is what I recommend if anybody cares.

1) If you are hesitant because you are worried it will make the game too difficult I suggest turning it on and if you don't like it then turn it off (it can be switched off at any time).

2) If you are saving it for a future playthrough to maintain interest level, that's legitimate (though I'll probably get around 200 hours easily either way) so more power to you.

3) If you are avoiding it because you think deathclaws will drop through your ceiling and eat your face, you're probably right. Best to hide under your bed and leave it to the professionals
