Is it too late for my warrior to use destruction spells dece

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 11:09 am

My warrior is level 39, he is my first character. I dabbled a bit into magic at earlier levels but only have 120 magicka, I have the Novice destruction perk and the Destruction dual casting perk. I am also looking to max enchanting which should help with it but will I have enough magicka to use the master spells even with enchanting? My destruction is 35.

You should be fine. Depending on which way you want to go, you can either use enchanting to reduce the magic cost for destruction down to 0 (requiring no need to add magicka at each level up) or you can do a mixture of cost reduction gear and increase your magicka at each level up (saving enchantment slots on your armor for increased magicka and other stuff). Either way, totally doable with your build.

So if I eventually get no need for magicka in destruction spells does that mean if I have 120 magicka and I try to use the master destruction spells I will have enough magicka for it?

120 magicka for master destruction spells? Try more like over 800...

Firestorm: 846 magicka
Blizzard: 656 magicka
Lightning Storm: 138 magicka per second

So, you would need to start putting points into your magicka, if you want to create a master mage, Bacon.

Hmmm only 140 magicka for lightning storm with enchanting ;) and I only want to be able to use master destruction spells as a backup source of damage.

Yes. If you have 100% cost reduction, you can cast as many master level destruction spells as you wish when you have no magicka left. Once you have 100% cost reduction, you can level destruction very quickly by spamming fire runes when facing multiple low level enemies.

120 magicka is more than enough to cast any spell if you have 100% cost reduction.

For example:

Firestorm: 0 magicka
Blizzard: 0 magicka
Lightening Storm: 0 magicka per second

I wouldn't say you'll be able to use destruction spells "decently" as this point because not even pure mages can use destruction spells "decently" as the school is not very good in my experience.

I agree with this. Master level spells in my opinion are quite silly as the lengthy animation to cast them is ridiculous and if you're hit while casting it breaks the charge. While cool to watch, to me it serves very little useful purpose in battle. Now if we could get together and play as team where the spell caster was protected those Master level spells may prove more useful. Back to your original question, no it's not too late to use destruction or any school of magic for that matter. My character was created as a fighter all the way. As I leveled I did try and keep balance between health, magicka and stamina. Obvisiously health and stamina were my main focus but I pulled magicka along as well. However being a fighter I soon found as you will that you have to move to other perks to increase your level as your max out your fighting skills (one-handed, two-handed, etc). I suggest using enchanting to reduce the spell cost and cast destruction until your heart is content. Some of the new casting kill animations are pretty cool so have fun.

The reason I am using the spells is because I need a backup source of ranged damage and I don't like archery.
