Too many character syndrome

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 4:03 pm

I have this problem where I make like way too many builds.

I have read posts where people are talking about having only 1 character for 180 hours!!! Yikes!! I totally get bored after like 40-50.

I have seriously made at least 40 different characters. A lot (most) get deleted after about 15 levels and I realize that it could be better or is to similar to another build I already have.

I have spent a ton of time searching for other peoples build ideas so I can make another awesome build.

I have played every build I can think of including, pure mage, illusion mage, sword and board, dual wielder, battle mage (a lot of these), barbarian, conjuration-archer, assassin, thief, two hander, unarmed, poisoner, necromancer (tons of variations) and tons of combinations.

So does anybody else do this? Am i the only one? Do you only play one character or two characters exclusively?

Join the Alt-itis Club. I'm not only the President, I'm also a client. (sorry for the old reference http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=hair+club+for+men&view=detail&mid=809B6FD9A596F632B2E1809B6FD9A596F632B2E1&first=0)

Jut hit 300 hours and 30-40 characters, maybe more. Most only into their teens. Some into the 20's. 1 character that finished the MQ. And my highest, and favorite, I don't think hit, or just barely hit 40.

And pretty much the builds you mentioned. I was the same way back when I played AD&D in the early 80's. Though then I couldn't just make new characters (DM didn't allow it).

Any time I read of someones interesting build or I come up with a "concept" character I have to try it. Like my Nord sword/shield that only uses Ancient Nord Armor and Weapons.

I've had at least a dozen characters most make it into low 20s before I'm itching for a new build.

These include: Pure warrior, Mage & Thief, vampire Assasin, two and one handed warrior, archer, priest and monks (monk build was fun), Battle Mages.

Guess I enjoy mixing and matching skills and RP the guy. Really need to add more evil into the mix, might try a necromancy next time around. Currently rocking a Knight of the Circle (military arm of Arkay temples) basically a Paladin.

I have only four characters. One is just a Mr. T everything who I got bored of after the novelty of it wore off in ten minutes. I prefer to stick with one character and have extras for other playstyles. My main is Gutslit, an RP kind of character. My other main is an Argonian who is only ever used because my five year old nephew likes to watch me play Skyrim. The Argonian just happens to be the gamey character.

I don't feel so bad now, i got 4 characters with maybe 4 more in the planning stage. Just waiting for DLC, see what changes that brings
I have a two nords, one sword and board, the other a dual wield/archer. I also have an orc berserker (heavy armor/2-h), plus a khajit assassin.
I am also thinking of a white/black knight, battlemage, among a couple other ideas.
I would like to play through the civil war storyline, and I can only think of a few races that would support the Empire. It would be nice, and might make for a better story in the long run, something about the Dovakin uniting the empire, defeating the thalmor, then maybe restarting a new dragonblood dynasty? Random ideas
But I think I would like play through as an imperial, maybe a breton, or maybe a dumner. Got a feeling I will be getting years out of this game. Gotta say, when it comes to bang for my buck, or rather game for my buck, I always feel like I get my money's worth on both TES and Fallout games. Just want to give Bethesda a thank you

ITT no lifers who play the game over and over despite it being repetitive and not really that fun at second time...

TBH I don't know how people have more than one character. I can only really focus on the character I'm playing until I get bored with them. Then again I usually only play an hour on weeknights and on and off all wekkend. Maybe if I had time....

Only 2 and these are the only two I've created. Stopped using one (Redguard) and created the other (Nord). The Nord is now level 44 and I grabbed an old save for the Redgaurd at level 10 and he's now up to 24 again. I'm planning on creating another soon because I've found that each of my two suit different moods. I'm feeling the need for another character that will be just chaotic and full of attitude. I'm leaning towards an orc, but I'm not positive. This new one may also be female because.....well, chaotic and full of attitude......

I have made a few diffrent characters but just cuz xbox before loved to delete my saves *broken HDD* but I want to make a pure thief character or like a dagger weilding character only only issue is I rather not getting stuck with using freaken a certain type of armor half the game (Best armor was scale armor for the character I had now, thankful I didn't put any points in it so I put her to heavy armor) idk light armor just seems EH in this pretty weak, but can I really find worth while daggers in damage sense?

I suffer from this, too.

I'm beginning to think the problem isn't me, but Skyrim (denial, I know, I know... but maybe not.)

When I took a break from Skyrim and started playing Morrowind for about a month, I played exactly one character. Got him up to level 33 or so, finished a couple questlines, and now that I have Tribunal I plan to take him 'out of retirement' as it were and continue with the same guy.

In Oblivion, the first time I played that I stuck with a character until I finished the MQ. Doing some side quests along the way, I think I got up to level 25 or so before he retired (finishing the MQ inevitably makes me want to retire a character).

In Skyrim, I haven't gotten a character higher than level 23.

It might be partly because the quests - even the Main Quest - just aren't terribly compelling. It took me 3 or 4 characters in Skyrim before I even wanted to do the MQ.

Partly it's probably because of the way characters are 'built'. No classes, just do what you want. Well, I still come up with pretty detailed skill/perk sets for my characters, and I don't like to change direction midstream. If I decide I want to start using magic, I'll make a whole new mage rather than 'retrain' my warrior.

Maybe it's also partly because there are a lot of cool options for character abilities, and since I like to create (usually) narrowly focused characters, that means I have to create a whole new character to experience a particular option.

It's just odd to me how I can get totally svcked in to Morrowind or Oblivion and really get into my characters there, but after awhile in Skyrim everything feels... the same? I dunno.

I've got a dozen characters all pretty unique and I obbessively alternate betwwen them. I take each one slowly and switch if I start to speed up . I also obbessively kepp a minimal journel and history for each one, It seems to work fine for me. Keeps things interesting and fresh.

Dang OP I am exactly like that. Here's just a few that I've retired. Many more can be added to those that I never really finished with before trying something else.

Anya Surilie. Female Breton. Pure Mage. College of Winterhold. Bards College.

Daral Berethi. Male Dunmer. Rogue, DW Daggers. Dark Brotherhood. Daedric Quests.

Dular. Male Orc. Warrior 2H Sword. Main Quest. Blades. Orc strongholds.

Onyx. Male Khajiit. Rogue 1H Sword and Bow. Thieves Guild.

Raven. Female Breton. Forsworn DW Sword and Axe. Markarth. Imperial Legion.

Svenja. Female Nord. Warrior 1H Sword and Shield. Main Quest. Companions. Stormcloaks.

Eric. Male Nord. Warrior 1H Axe and Shield. Light Armor. Companions. Explorer - been everywhere.

I'm trying to make a character of every race.

I have at mo...

1. Nord warrior with 2 handed battle-axe & heavy armor (dragonplate). Plus archery for range.

2. Khajiit warrior with dual swords, bow & light armor (glass with hood or Nightingale). Stealth & speed based.

3. Dunmer mage-assassin with destruction & illusion in light armor (Dark Brotherhood or glass)

4. Breton witch with conjuration & alteration using conjured battle-axe or conjured bow. Dressed in clothes (green robes with built in hood. plus forsworn boots and gauntlets). Alteration magic instead of armor.

others that I've barely played...

5. Imperial knight with mace and shield in heavy armor (working up to ebony).

6. Bosmer (Thalmor agent) with bow and dagger in light armor (full elven).

6. Redguard military (Hammerfell) in heavy armor with sword and shield or destruction (dwarven armor and scimitar)

I have two Khajiit, one a thief/assassin dual wielder, one a hunter/archer, who has not stolen a day in his life. I have a Dunmer Nightblade, I have an Altmer robed mage, I have an Imperial "leader", and I have a Nord no magic warrior. so, I guess that's six, plus two of them I restarted, so if you count those its eight. Nowhere near 30 or 40, but I too like to do different thigns with different characters.

My first character I spent like 2 months playing him, but after that I've probably made like 25 characters. My problem is that when I make a character I always end up missing something like, oh boy I miss destruction, or man I reallly miss being stealthy, or I miss conjuration. So every character I make now, I make a desktop folder with the saves just in case I feel like doing that again.

I have quite a few characters but most of them don't even touch the main story and sort of retire after 80 hours or so.
However, I do have a main char I'm playing since the release of Skyrim and still enjoying her. Althoguh, the lack of quests sadden me.
A lot of the supposedly infinite quests got horribly broken along the way so monsters don't spawn, caves are empty, NPCs went missing.

300+ hours on my first and only character. How do you get to see the game develop or role play in any way shape or form if you don't see a character through to the end? Part of the fun of an RPG is living with and adapting to mistakes/compromises made in character build.

The problem with that is you'll never know what its like being a necromancer, or an assassin, a sword and board warrior, or a master pickpocket. Unless your character is a jack of all trades.
