top 5 things wrong with companions

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 5:14 am

My top 5 are this.
They're too slow, if you run a lot most of the time they will fall back.
They don't level up, they are useless later in the game.
They wear whatever they want, you should decide what they wear.
They're comments about things are boring and annoying.
They can't get on a horse, if you are on a horse then they will fall back.

Here are the good things with the companions.

1. Aela is a freaky woman.
2. Aela is a freaky woman.
3. Aela is a freaky woman.
4. Aela is a freaky woman

Oh and being a werewolf is cool too.

They utterly lack personality.
They have no companion questlne to make them more unique.
You can't even have any sort f conversation with them. Each companion should have a ton of dialogue and stuff to talk about with you.
They are buggy.
This aspect of the game was only halfway finished.

i agree, they should have had a questline to give you some sort of background about them, dragon age origins was pretty good.

I actually do not like companions in the game and never use them for all of the reasons above.

7 they don't jump, they will very seldom jump down to follow you and will never jump up.
This also apply for enemies jumping down will also let you get some distance however they might find another route to get to you.

However not so sure about leveling I shot Aela with a 400 damage bow and she lost 10% health, this require high armor rating and loads of health.
Yes she is wearing legendary elven and glass armor but I would probably not survive that hit.

Each companion should have one multi part questline at least. If there was no time to add a questline then that NPC should not be a companion.

If they were more like buddies/compadres their horrible AI would matter a lot less. They should say more stuff, talk to you more, have concerns and ask for advice, offer advice etc. I would rather have 5 fully fleshed out companions (or zero) than 20 half baked meatshields.

i think their level depends on what level you were when you first met them, but in the pc you can update them..

If they added a story line to them, and more dialog to them, that'll be a major improvement.

1) Horrible pathing

2) Bad AI

3) Constant reverting to default gear

4) Lack of durability at higher levels

That's about all I can think of

I liked the fact you can have zero attachment to them, but I wish they kept that to the sellswords of the inns and such. Disposable companions are needed, but ones that have quests and personalities were reallygood in F:NV.

1. Terrible AI (e.g. walking in front of fireballs; standing in doorways you're trying to get through). Only one I like is Aela. Why? Two words. Side boob.

You are being generous, but yeah, LlamaRCA could show these guys a thing or two about companion dialogue.

I found the only ones to have any initial depth are the ones you brawl with, but after that they are pretty much all the same.

No need to list 5, it's summed up in the above quote.

How about the fact they can side with the person you're trying to kill?

Granted, it's a DB contract...

Lydia certainly has the habit of running in front of my axe swings, shield bashes and shouts, and it's thoroughly annoying. I absolutely despise having to look back and see if she's keeping up. She's every bit as fast as I am, but sometimes she just doesn't bother moving when I move. That's outside, of course. Half the time when I'm indoors, I'll stop, turn around and she's right there tailgating me.

Also - why is she utterly blind to some of the ridiculously obvious pressure plates and the like? I could even accept it so long as if she could remember where they are after I find them, but no, she'll run right over the same trigger an infinite amount of times.

Then there's the fact that once she decides she wants to fight, she could give less than jack [censored] about what I have to say about it. See a bad guy, realize that I'm on a ledge and need to walk around and away from the bad guy to actually get to him - and she'll stand her ground, completely out of reach and unable to even shoot the bad guy with a bow, while I'm pleading with her "Hey, you dumb [censored], we have to go down and around this rock formation about fifty meters to get around it and get to the stupid bandit. Un-bunch your panties and follow me!"

If you're on the PC, you can get your companion's level by opening the console and typing getlevel - If I remember correctly.

If you go to this website, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Skyrim

and type Follower in the search box at the top left side of the screen, you'll get more info than you ever needed about followers. There's even a Google excel-type spreadsheet you can look at that provides more info.

You can also ensure that you follower has leveled with you (or bring the follower up to your level if he/she didn't level) - that's a 5-step process I think, and is explained in the wiki.

Good luck.

That made me laugh, I imagine that many of us here can relate.

The only follower I take anywhere these days is Annekke, at least for my sneak characters, she remains quiet whether walking, running or sneaking, no awful "repeated" stories of her past exploits.
