Torchlight 2

Post » Tue Aug 23, 2011 1:38 am

This is one to keep an eye on! It should be much like Torchlight 1, the Diablo-like hack 'n slash RPG with developers who actually worked on Diablo 1 and 2. Only now with the addition of multiplayer (LAN and internet), large (randomized) overworld areas with weather and day/night cycle, character customization, more pets, different classes.

It does not require an internet connection to play on single player, there's full modding support with the Torchlight 2 editor, and you can bring your character from single player to multiplayer and back at any time. And just like the first game it's not going to be a full 60 dollars release.

Youtuber Totalbiscuit is currently working on bringing 3 very long Torchlight 2 videos from Gamescom to his channel. First two parts with gameplay commentated by lead designer Max Schaefer, and the third one some gameplay by TB himself. Which should give us a lot of new info.

Another interesting little detail: they're using http://www.ogre3d.org/, a FOSS graphics rendering engine. If you have no idea what that is, it probably wouldn't matter to you anyway :P.

Story wise it won't matter much, and the controls/gameplay should be pretty straightforward in the sequel as it was in the first game, so you don't have to. But it's definitely a nice game. And it can run on almost every PC or laptop.

Torchlight 2 is estimated to be released in November this year apparently.

I enjoyed Torchlight 1 for what it was, a Diablo-esque hack and slash. Definitely keeping an eye out for Torchlight 2 now as well. November is going to be a busy month game-wise, luckily Torchlight is the kind of game you can just boot up when you have 30 minutes of time left and clear a level or two.

Yeah I'm looking forward to this game..kinda on the looking forward to backburner though with everything that's coming out. I enjoy Torchlight 1, have it on PC and the 360. But it's simplicity doesn't always attract my interest so I don't play it often. Hopefully this next one holds my interest for longer periods of time.

I enjoyed the first one, only paid like £2 for it too. I imagine I'll do a similar thing with this one, just wait till it's pretty cheap on a Steam sale and pick it up then.

Will I have to click my left mouse button like a woodpecker when attacking or just click and watch?

Depends on the fight ;P
But no, it's not really bad as far as the clicking goes. At least the first one wasn't. I quite enjoyed it :)

You have to keep clicking, you won't keep attacking something by clicking it once, but holding the mouse button works as well.

After watching that video, my interest in this game increased while also increasing my negative views of Diablo 3. (after hearing all that terrible news of course). Definitely going to keep checking back for news on Torchlight 2.
