Torchs

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 9:07 am

I like torches, i really do but they seem to hate me, i like how they can be used as a sheild/weapon, but they run away so quickly. Without even a goodbuy. I would like a torch that doesnt go out, (in dlc maybe) even fancier, one that turns undead or somthing.
Just the added varrity of metal torches too would be cool, they could hit harder. So please beths give my true nord a true guiding light, not some crummy stick.
lol semirant over, question time.
Where can i buy torches? I check the general stores in riverwood and whiterun, but no luck?!

ps i dont want to kill ppl for them, this is for my pasifist mage, i just want to light up the arch mages quarters a bit by balencing them on the rafters. Working nicly so far just need a few more. Thanks.

They are useless if you are playing in 1080p.

Not if you play with the brightness down.

oh and my TV is very nice thank you lol.
Any way back on 'track' how does 1080p effect the brightness?! Some people actully like there games to be dark where there no light, i like to change the brightness for different games/situations instance: i only play with the brightness up on my kahjiit because night sux. lol.

Torches anyone?

He might mean that if you set you FOV to something other than the horrible vanilla FOV that torches end up right in front of your face. Bethesda didn't bother to actually put any areas in the game that you even need torches or a light spell. I can think of only two areas where they were handy and that was just looking around for loot. They put this awesome candle spell in the game that follows you around but they don't bother with dark dungeons or dark nights. Come on bethesda.......seriously?

Haven't found a need for torches since Oblivion or even light or nighteye type spells, I just keep the brightness all the way up. Works for me.

another question: is it normal that the night eye khajiit power doesnt make the view brighter but only fuzzy? or is this bugged for me?

The edges get kinda blurred, that's normal. It should get brighter as well though.

I'm actually curious how viable torches are as "shields", blocking and setting enemies on fire could be a viable combat tactic? Might be fun.

you could give a torch to a follower and they will automatically light the way when it's dark. it will then also last forever.

In many caves and ruins you can take the torches of the walls.

Most of the torches can be pulled off the walls in the dungeons and mines. That first mine when you come out of Helgen on the way to Riverwood is a good example.

Yep, the mine near Riverwood for instance.
And torches respawn as soon as you go through a loading screen, so you can just run in and out til you have enough.

We seem to have the same thoughts at the same times.

It would be one thing to turn the brightness down, but then it would be dark during the day as well, because nights and caves are only moderately darker than full daylight.

If any of you play on the pc and don't mind using mods, here's a good lighting mod that I use.

http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4323
The "fixes" in this mod for exteriors:
    - More powerful sun color
    - Lighter sunset/sunrise skies
    - Lighter cloudy skies
    - Darker ambient color
    - Very dark nights (If it's too dark, you may need to fix your monitor's brightness, try this
    - Fixed color balance and saturation for all weather types to look realistic/neutral - Removed bloom - Removed forced contrast increase
For interiors:
- Removed fake "reflected light" color
- Darker interiors
- Very dark dungeons
- Fixed saturation, the color balance was fine
- Removed bloom (candles still glow from particles)
- Removed forced contrast increase

Makes torches and light spells actually useful.

My brightness is in the default seting. Even if you are playing as a warrior on a darugh dungeon you will find alot of torchs in the walls, as well water and misterilious light from the ambient around you. Also i liked the torchs from obvilion, In skyrim they weight 0.5. On Obvilion they weights nothing.
