Torchwood: Miracle Day

Post » Wed Aug 10, 2011 8:44 pm

Anybody else watching the new Torchwood season? I'm really liking it so far. It's been a lot better than the first two seasons for sure.

Regarding last week's episode: (Remember the Us is a week ahead of the Uk, and I'm in the US)
Spoiler
Best episode so far for me. Maybe I'm blind but Vera's death and the crematorium modules took me completely off guard. I'm glad Gwen got brought back to earth by that bit with her dad. Here's hoping we don't have to hear her say "This is Torchwood ?" ever again.

I've been reveling in the fact that we're getting it before the Brits. It almost makes up for always being behind on Doctor Who.

It seems pretty stupid so far. The CIA research lady, Esther I think, is the only one who actually seems to be qualified for the work she's doing. If I was the people behind the conspiracy I'd feel well confident with them as the only apparent opposition.

I never really watched much of the previous series though, although I saw all of Children of Earth, so I can't really compare.

My official stance on Torchwood is that Doctor Who is better. But really, I'm just not enjoying this season very much.

I hadn't been watching it, then I crammed in all four (so far) episodes in one night and loved it. I think this is the best series of Torchwood yet - others have had their ups and downs, like:
There was that episode where Owen died, which I thought was fantastically performed and moving almost to the point of being genuinely upsetting. The only way they could have ruined that really powerful moment it is if they had him come back to life in the next episode. Oh wait.
I'm hoping it doesn't lose speed towards the end, like Children of the Earth did. Russel T. Davies's writing has really started to grate on me, so I hope the American half of the production (who I think deserve a lot of credit, especially for their casting) have reined him in a bit. Either way I'm really excited for the rest of the series, the first few episodes have built up a lot of curiosity and some great characters, and I'm hoping all that potential gets cashed in.

I love Torchwood but that's kind of typical of Torchwood though, half the people seem like they shouldn't be there.
