Torn between starting over and continuing.

So I've got my character I love dearly, but in many ways I feel my current file is tarnished - lost unique items due to bugs, got scaled gear at too-low of a level, character looks a tad odd...

But I've invested quite a lot of time in all the quests, especially some of the more necessary radiant quest grinding.

I'm not sure whether I should start a totally fresh, new file to do before Dawnguard comes out, or just keep on with this one.

Rather than asking people to form my opinion for me, I just wonder what you guys do when you feel this way.

I know that feel bro. i usually have multiple characters with different class types and what not so i just switch between them to keep things fresh. there is nothing wrong with keeping that character and making a few more new ones.

My first on is typicaly used to learn how everything works in the game. Once I feel I've gotten everything out of that learning play I role another one that stays true to a style of play. Helps me plan out the next PC I play.

I do whatever feels good. If I'm not happy with the build I've made or the way she looks or anything that would bug me while I'm trying to have fun, I'll make a new character. I've made some that only went to Level 18 or Level 35 and then a new build started percolating in the back of my mind. I'm fine with making a new character and I like doing the early levels. Do what makes you happy and enjoying the game....it's about fun. :)

I feel the same way man. I've got a great character (Lvl 52) with 350+ Hrs into it and I would just hate to start over when I dedicated sooo much time and effort into one character. I think I might build a new character when Dawngaurd comes out? I dunno..

I'd say start over. I got pretty high up with my mage, but at this point, I'm just... "Eh." Things were more fun at lower levels, so it might be a good idea to do that when dawnguard comes out so as to keep things interesting for you.

I completely screwed up my oblivion character when I started out and levelled all the wrong skills, none of which were my majors. Being a forgiving game, I continued with it anyway.

In the case of skyrim, I thought there'd be a barber or something that lets you change facial hair and face paint in the game, so I made him look like a total dirty hobo, thinking I'd clean him up after he'd escape. Turned out I couldn't, but it didn't bother me.

In both cases I made new characters later out for fun, to try out other races/play styles, but essentially kept the mains anyway.

Just save your game to a folder and start anew. You can always go back later.

I have this problem sometimes, and they way I do it is if you even have the thought of possibly starting over, you should do it.

The problem is, the bugs will still be there with your new character too....

I was in the same situation and I remade the character. Didn't feel like doing the work again after everything I did on the original so I just gave up. I wouldn't recommend it.

Backup the old character then completely reinstall the game. Might solve the bugs
