I'd pick http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Lydia. But I guess it all depends on what sort of character you're playing. Different characters are gonna have different advantages by having one character compared to another. My current character http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/ad208/xenaclone/CrystalBeth.jpg would pick Lydia.

You should make a poll!

Is it worth picking up a Thief follower for a Thief character? In roleplaying terms this sounds awesome (plus Aela is the coolest follower I've come across) but I have a feeling the follower just ends up being a hurdle since they're probably worse than you and can't contribute much otherwise. I had Aela with me on that Companion quest and I wasn't too impressed, I'm just hoping it was because I couldn't control her via dialogue.

I can't help you with the pick, but I chose a marriable follower. That way my toon is able to get the Lover's Comfort bonus when sleeping away from the primary house (with the spouse acting as a follower).

Keep Lydia as a housecarl. Marry Aela, and have Mjoll as a companion. Zing!

Wow, that would be a house full of people! I think I would rather have a little peace and quiet when I got home from adventuring. :D

Does your character primiarly use melee or ranged attacks?

My warrior tends to hit his comrades when they're in melee range, especially when they move in front of him. When the follower is fighting from range, that's less of an issue.

If I was primarily using bows or magic, I might prefer having a warrior companion acting as tank.

Adventure with both of them and see how compatible you are in combat. As for marriage, I'd go with Aela as she has an actual personality.

It would only seem crowded in Breezehome. If this was Proudspire Manor, the extra company would be welcome, as you'd have this big mansion, with only you and your housecarl to occupy it.

Both melee and ranged, and a bit of werewolf form just for fun.

I have wanted to marry Lydia for a long time but since she was bugged I always had to marry someone else with past characters. But my current Nord is going to marry Lydia since they have now patched it.
