Trading in Games

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 1:53 am

As many of you probably know, you can trade-in old games in order to receive half credit towards another purchase. Do you think it would be worth it to turn in my old Elder Scrolls games in order to purchase Skyrim at a discount? Why or why not?

How much of a discount could I get?

Are any of you doing the same?

Thats how I managed the get it pre ordered. I got ahold of all kinds of my old games to trade in and the in store cred I got total, was able to purchase it in full with, to my surprise, $15 left over. I didnt trade in my other TES games, but I did take in alot. So take in a good amount of ones you either dont car for anymore or forgot you had, and go for it

I only keep the really great titles after I'm done with them. Games that were only ok get traded in. Gamestop is doing a trade in three games for skyrim you get a extra 30% twords trade in.

im pretty sure that they were doin 30% no matter what, and another 10% if you've got the card. i always trade my games, i almost never play games after i beat them, so why keep em and collect dust when i can get new ones cheaper?

If you're sure you'll never play them again, I say go for it. I keep games like TES because I find myself dipping my toe in again every once in a while (same with the newer Fallouts), so I personally wouldn't trade those ones.

I traded in my old copy of Oblivion on Xbox, but I have it on PC to and since it wasn't the game of the year version I wan't worried. A few others bit the dust like Fear and F1:2010 and but there's no way in heck I'd trade in my Fallout 3 or RDR, even for Skyrim.

It's one or the other I think, depends on which one gives you a better discount.

If you think there will ever be a time you'll want to play them again, no. If not, yes.

I never trade in/sell any game.

That's why I have managed to get such a large stack of them over the past 15 or so years.

In the trading games area, Gamestop and places like it really rip off people. They only give a tiny fraction of how much the game is worth...(really really tiny...)
Sell em' on ebay or some such place...you'll get your money's worth and be able to afford Skyrim. Maybe more...;)

NO. They will totally rip you off. If you can, sell it to someone who will pay more or keep them. Do not get ripped off. Selling games to gamestop is as stupid as pawning things. They pay you a fraction of what it's worth.

If you MUST sell them, sell it to a friend or someone else who will pay what it's worth. Anyone who sells to gamestop is either being lazy, stupid OR they just don't care about getting their money's worth. (not meant to be an insult, just meant to be a deterrent against making a bad decision.)

i got Arkham city fo free thanks to trade ins. if ya got enough games go for it! but be sure to pre order cuz you get a 30% bounus at gamestop plus the normal 10% with the card.

@above

I normally agree with ya but the adiitional 30% makes it worth it.

I'd rather lose a few bucks opposed to pawning my old games off to my friends. I let them borrow any game they want at any time. So, not something I'm going to do. You can do craigslist but that usually only good for a couple of the games your trying to get rid of and it's a pain in the ass sometimes.

No just sell each individually on like eBay. Gamestop and other stores rip you off. I mean they are giving $36 for Gears of War 3 with a receipt, but only to Nov. 1.... Just to give you an idea on the scam.

I got a good amount towards the games I traded in. For CoD: MW2, i got $12 something and because of my powerupreward card i got a bonus $7. Thats a good bargain for a game I havent played since a couple months after it came out. But then again, I traded in quite a few. Each one I got a bonus with however

I don't think anyone buys a game they don't think they'll get alot of playtime through. But they end up collecting dust anyway.

I only trade games that I'm not too fond of. I don't trade them in, I trade them on a website that trades games, books, and movies. I've been ripped off once so I'm a little hesitant but I've had about 40 good trades.

I've never found it to be worth it unless it's something you're absolutely 100% sure won't ever play again. I did that with my PS1 a LOOOOOOOONG time ago, including all the games, about a month later, I completely regretted it.

I actually was going to trade in Infamous 2 a few days ago (brand new right out of the PS3 bundle box, still shrink wrapped and all) and Gamestop said all they could offer me was $17. I figure the game couldn't be so bad as to be worth only $17 as they are still selling it new for $60 and used for $55 so I decided against it.

Why would you trade in an old TES game? Don't you have something less infinitely replayable lying around? :P
