Tragic NPC deaths

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 2:45 pm

Today I was playing the game and was at the part in the MQ where I reunited Delphine and Esbern at her Inn in Riverwood. It was night time, we all walked out the door to make our way to Sky Haven Temple when a dragon swoops in and starts attacking with flames. Alvor the blacksmith was headed to the Inn for a drink when he got caught in the action. Me, Delphine, and couple of Whiterun guards managed to slay the dragon with volleys of arrows when it landed on the roof of the Inn but when the smoke cleared Alvor was found dead at the foot of the Inn steps with a bunch of burn marks in the street next to him.

RIP Alvor -Riverwood blacksmith, father to Dorthe, husband to Sigrid, and uncle to my good friend and old war buddy Hadvar (who was in the Inn drinking at the time).

Anyone else have any tragic or random NPC deaths like this? Also I'm wondering if this will have effect on things in the future such as dialog with people in Riverwood.

I literally just got into riverwood for the first time when I saw Faendal's dead body in the middle of town.

I visited Dawnstar for the first time on one character, and found Beitild lying there dead on the steps of the jarl's longhouse. For no reason that I could see.

I don't fast travel directly to unprotected settlements anymore, as I'm tired of dragons showing up and indiscriminately frying people.

Except I just got out of Helgen. There wasn't anything near by to kill him.

I reloaded when Alvor died on my charicter. so sad.

Edit: I actually just thought of another.

I fast travelled to winterhold, I think I was meaning to actually travel to windhelm. After doing so, I noticed the drunkard (who I forget the name of) lying dead in a snowberry bush. I wondered how he died, I hadn't been to winterhold for a long time, if he died by a dragon attack his body would of dissapeared by then. I had just backed out of searching him for a note or anything that might provide a quest or a clue to how he died, when two gaurds walk past me. They, like me, wondered what happend. Suddenly, a roar comes from afar, a dragon roar at that too! The guards rounded two of the NPCs walking the streets to get inside the inn and then the three of us fighted the dragon.

Alas, one of the brave guards died, bitten to peices and then thrown ontop of a nearby rock. The other guard was badly injured, but we killed the dragon, and I healed the live guard before svcking the soul from the murderous beast.

I've told this story on here before, but hey, what's one more time?

I got to Rorikstead just to see Alduin raising a named dragon not far away. I tried to keep the dragon away from town, but another frost dragon struck me from behind and I couldn't take both by myself out in the open. I had no choice but to retreat into town and get help from the guards.

I did and we beat the named dragon. However, it was apparently at a time of the day where nearly EVERYBODY in the freaking town was outside. I turned to see dead bodies everywhere as the Frost Dragon was still living. It took out my last guard helper before I killed it. I looked around the town at all the dead bodies and two dragon skeletons, thinking that everyone was dead.

Well, the two little girls from town come running out from apparent hiding and start looking at the one dragon skeleton. One asks me "are you sure it's dead?"

Yeah...yeah, it's dead little girl. So are your parents. And everyone you've ever known in this town.

Not an NPC, but the VTOL mammoths I see occasionally are quite tragic. I exit some cave, and in the distance a mammoth jumps far far into the air, catches up with gravity and falls to its death.

Walked into Riverwood one day and noticed Sven's body hung over a fence.
The inn hasn't been the same without his singing in the background.
I also noticed one day that Alvor wasn't working at the forge and wondered for the longest time where he had gone, since I come there every so often to sell weapons and armour.
Just recently I stumbled across his body hidden in the bushes behind a house! I have no idea how long it'd been there. lol
Does Riverwood have some murderer or something. Maybe it's that old lady who sits on the porch all day.

I don't know about a murderer, but I've seen an inordinate amount of generic "Thief" characters there after I got a little ways into the Thieves guild quest line.

I had too much loot to sell in Whiterun one time and the Khajiit trader wasn't outside, so I went to the Riverwood trader. I got to town, and saw the first thief exiting a building. The guards killed him pretty easily, because instead of running away, he tried to take them on with an iron dagger....

So I entered the traded and came back out, and there was ANOTHER thief. The guards again killed him and his corpse fell on top of the first thief.

I'm thinking Riverwood has some sort of crime wave going on...

That's so weird, Alvor died in Riverwood for the same reason as with me. Damn Dragon. I guess he isn't essential or he would have survived.

We should have an Alvor appreciation thread. Apparently this guy likes to hurl himself at dragons in many people's games.

The death of Alvor isn't tragic: there are plenty of blacksmiths out there. What's tragic is the Master one-handed trainer dying to a frost dragon before I had gotten anywhere the training cap. (Hadn't gotten DR yet.)

I've had an ancient dragon take out most the non essential population of Windhelm. I never knew dragons could spawn inside cells like that.

Dragons seem to have an appetite for smiths in my games. Alvor and Lod have both been eaten. Dragons must like the smoky metalic taste....

Most the villages in my town are "dead", their popultion eaten by dragons.

On the bright side, dragons have killed off my DB contracts and bounties a few times. Nice to collect the reward and not lift a finger.

I also can't fast travel to Riverwood without Alvor dying. Apparently he's being stalked by a Perv Dragon who kills him and takes his pants.

Let's see,
Faendal became lunch for an ancient dragon.
Riverwood Guard #2 got flamed by it too. I kept his shield as mine and enchanted it in honor of those brave idiots.
Madesi was murdered by Mjoll.
The guards and half of Riften were murdered by Mjoll. (I gave her daedric, really bad idea.)
I killed Grelka when I was using telekinesis to catch and throw a greatsword of iron.
Lod was stabbed to death by the Falkreath guards for no reason.
Stormcloaks 1-3 were killed by Thalmor.
And Lydia survived all of this.

The naked challenger also was eaten by a dragon that interrupted our duel. It was funny.

Sitting next to a hot forge all day must give them a smokey flavor that dragons and Namira worshipping cannibals just can't resist!

I've only ever managed to keep Thonnir alive once in Movarths lair. Braver then his fellows he may be, but not great at tactically engaging and not charging half a dozen vampires by himself.

Not so much tragic, but certainly unexpected, Iwas out by Solitude, wehen I hear a dragon and Vorstag got dropped to his knees instantly. Chasing the culprit, a second Blood Dragon joined in, but both kept flying away to attack other targets. I nthe ensuing chase up the mountain, I notice theres a literal anti-aircraft storm of ice spikes flying up at them.

Fianlly catching up, I find one dragon dead, and kill the other one at the Thalmor Embassy, with dead elves all over the place.

I also had the convo with the guard captain in Solitude about his recruits being able to fight a dragon, and he's like "I don't knwo baout that, but they're good hearted lads". Not more than five minutes later, a dragon torched all of them and change.

During the Stormcloak takeover of Whiterun, none of the guards got arrows to the knee. They wanted to be remembered for arrows hitting their knee. *cries* Wonder how much money is on the bodies of those guards.
