Training Light Armor as an assassin.

Has anyone figured out how training the Light Armor skill works?

I'm Playing as a pretty fragile Assassin, who usually doesn't go head to head with anybody if it can be helped. So getting hit is not really in the books.

I remember power training in oblivion by letting rates continuously attack me while casting a sustainable healing spell to keep from dieing.

But Skyrim actually feels like you don't have to power level so I'm not looking to do a similar thing here. But I am having trouble raising my Light Armor skill in order to get access to some useful perks.

My question is how do the skills progress in Skyrim. As it seem to be different then Oblivion. For example I'm had my Conjuration skill go up just while walking around in a cave with bound swords in hand, not while actually casting the spell, or using the swords, just while walking around with enemies near by. I like that, it makes sense, maintaining bound swords should increase the skill.

I'm wondering what increases the skill for Light Armor, and if it too is handle different. Does one have to get hit for the you armor skill to increase? or does it gradually increase just by wearing it and being near enemies?

If that is the case them I happy with continuing with the way I'm playing. If it only increases when you get hit, then I might have to force some head to head battles to help it along.

It levels up when you are hit. There is a guide in this section somewhere that explains how to "power level" each skill. It said for block/heavy (and light) armor there is a place south of Rivenwood where wolves can't get behind you and you let them attack you while you block (or not) and heal yourself.

Just find any weak ass mob and stand there and let them hit you again and again. Mudcrabs, Wolves or weakly armed bandits are good for this.
PS go grab the Thief Stone buff first for 20% faster training of thief skills including light armour.

I went out in the wilderness, found some wolves, killed one, and then sat there and let one wolf attack me while healing occasionally. Took a couple of hours, but now Light armor is up to 60 skill.

Thanks for the tips, I was hoping that it was changed and it increased passively as well while wearing it. But looks like I'll have to take some beatings to raise it.

I currently have the Fighter Stone activated to help increase 1H, as most of my stealth skills are increasing far more rapidly then any other even without the Thief Stone active.

Suppose I could just pay for the training as well. Save me some grinding.

The Lover Stone is nice, too, helps everything increase 15% faster. Everything.

My only problem with taking a beating is my mana degrades too fast, I run out and it doesn't come back fast enough to balance out the damage wolves do to me.

Yeah I'm anticipating the same thing as I have not put any points into my health yet. Most things can one or two hit me.

Maybe I'll make a ton of health potions before hand.

Also, just take the single first perk into restoration. Makes the heal much cheaper, might balance it out.

It's a theory, I haven't tried it yet.

Use a shield.

It gives you a passive armor bonus.

Just don't block with it, or you'll level your block skill instead.

Altough Block is still useful as it affects parries as well.

A parry might save your half naked assassin ass xD

I'm wondering if fighting brawls would be another none lethal way to train Light Armor. I pretty sure I had a skill increase during one brawl. I'd still end up losing most brawls without pots though, so it would mean training at the cost of getting my [censored] beaten.

Just get the perk for unarmed bonus from glove armor attributes.
