Transfering saves from XBOX 360 to PC. What's the point?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 1:02 am

I play on 360, because I have never been savvy enough for PC games, and mods, etc. I love the concept, but I feel I am too old to keep up with the technology.
I heard about the easy transfer of 360 saves to PC.
What are the benefits of doing this? Being able to take screenshots? Is it possible to mod your character, and see those modifications on the 360 after transfering the saves back?
Before I try to undertake this task, I wanted to know if it was even worth my while.

1. Mods are not saved in the save file itself. The mod data is in separate file. So, transferring it back to 360 won't work

2. Yes, you can take screenshots with it, but the image may very well be different from the one you see on TV, the PC may not be able to display the graphics quality XBOX 360 can (and vice versa)

3. You can use mods on PC, but since you've got XBOX360 version, this means shelling out more bucks for essentially the same thing (mods give more value, but it depends on how you see the mods themselves).

4. You can use (ironically named) console commands on PC, which allows you to do stuff not possible on console. Including quest fixes (this, I think, is the primary reason)

Question: How would #4. Benefit me if I intended to move the saves back onto 360?

So far, what I am gathering, is that transfering the saves back to the 360 doesn't make very much sense.

I don't think so either. I don't quite understand why anyone would want to do that.

But, then again, I don't own a console. So maybe there's some aspect of this that I am not in a position to understand.

well as pointed out there are some benifits.

additional mods wont be saved no, however skyrim has plenty in it thats coded that you just cannot get on 360, but CC's can get quite well, i dont own a PC, nor do i know if any of this will actually work, but i would guess.

-unique clothes: nocturnals outfit, sheogoraths outfit, some jarl outfits, etc.
-other unique items not normally obtainable on console: other clothes, armor, weapons.
-perks: i belive you can just add perks
-levels: ditto
-money: ditto
-pretty much if there is a CC for it type it and go, i would love CC's on console.

Say your game is bugged and you can't drop a quest item, or an NPC is missing and you can't progress a quest. Transferring your save to the PC and fixing them with console commands is the main advantage.

The quest infos are saved in the save file itself. This allows your save files to work on different machines dependently. Changes made on your save (on PC) will be visible when you transfer it back to 360

For example, assume that you're facing the Atomic Nirnroot problem, or Ninja Letrush Outside Whiterun effect.

You transfer your save to PC, and delete each of them (save for thr Nirnroot itself, or the true Letrush), and saves

Once you transfer it back to your 360, you'll see that the Nirnroot glows (or Letrushes) that you deleted is still gone

Apparently you can actually make changes without even using the PC console now, though I have no idea if that would get you banned from XBL...

I am not familiar with this "Letrush". What is it? Also, I have never encountered the atomic nirnroot thing. Is this just a cosmetic issue, or does it affect quest progression?

Raestloz gave a very good explanation. Porting your saves to PC (and back) would allow you to console around stuck quests, drop useless quest items, adjust misspent perks, gift yourself gold and items, etc.

I don't believe there are any consequences vis a vis XBL as of yet since Skyrim is a single player game. That could change if enough Achievement collectors complain to M$.

I don't have Skyrim on PC but I did it with one of my Oblivion saves. I fixed a few quests, gave myself items unavailable in the console version (Emperor's robes etc.), things like that.

It was fairly simple and well worth it for me.

Emporer's robes ARE available in the console version. I have them, along with the emperor's shoes, and I do not play on PC.

It is a well known trick.

Do NOT give the amulet of kings to jauffre. The moment you do, emperor septim's body disappears from the sewers.

As long as you do not give the amulet to jauffre, thus, moving the main quest forward, emperor septim's body remains laying in the sewers.

You can be 200 hours in and his body will still be there.

The trick is to ressurect his corpse with the staff of worms, then kill the resurrected corpse.

Line your crosshairs up on his corpse. Save your game.

Reload that save and loot his corpse the moment the save loads before his corpse disappears (despawns) this will allow you to loot the emperor's robes and shoes.

It is a well known trick. I did it on several playthroughs back in 2008/2009.

Ah, well I didn't know that. But it was still worth transferring the save to fix the quests.
