Treasure Hunter Perk, worth it?

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 8:48 am

Kinda digging my character that's not a total powerhouse. No smithing or enchanting for me, what I find is what I wear. I've sacrificed a lot of ownage to put points in speech and really thinking about some lock picking perks. Golden Touch and Treasure Hunter in particular. I'm curious to know peoples experiences with it, if there was any noticeable change in frequency or power of magic items found in chests etc. Seems to me 5 perk points is an awful lot to get 50% "greater chance of special treasures" though

IMO - No.

Loot has been varied, with enchanted gear appearing more regularly in chests - I've had the perk since for like 25 levels already, but even at level 50+ I'm not seeing much I wouldn't be able to get at a shop, surely nothing I can't smith/enchant better.

I wish I had some of my perks back! I won't bother with the lockpicking tree again.

My first Daedric armor (boots with +70 stamina) was found after I took that perk...just saying.

I'm at level 39 and have so much gold and valuable junk I don't know what to do with it all. Spend it on something else.

edit: Just saw the above post. Whoa. Um. Hmmm.

If you have the extra perk points then yeah you could take it. I haven't noticed anything from it due to the fact that I'm finding good loot regardless. I will say that I got my 1st daedric weapon out in the wild (A Mace unenchanted) at level 49 and I selected this perk around the mid 20's, so it's random.

There are far better ways to get good equipment than spending 5 perk points to marginally improve one's chances in Bethesda's random loot generator lottery.

It only boosts the frequency of the loot, not the quality. You'll still be finding all kinds of great stuff without it.

I agree with the sentiment, btw. I'm running around with my first non-smithing character. I'm dropping perks into pickpocketing and a magic school or two. It's a lot of fun. In fact, you can get access to more unique equipment with pickpocketing than you can with lockpicking.

I think it is worth it. Shortly after I took the perk, I went into a dungeon. One of the chest gave me a Dragon bone shield. :D

Maybe for RP purposes, not for utility. There really isn't anything I can think of worth finding and keeping, unless you mod the game so that things you find aren't exactly like what you can buy.

Treasure hunter is valuable if you have a character where you do not want to mess with enchanting. Otherwise, forget it. Fortune finder is useful if you do not want to haul everything back to a merchant for sale and still end up with more than enough coin.

Man peeps don't get or understand Random bleep is random getting 1 item means nothing at all. I have gotten daedric and dragon drops without it and you spent 5 points and think it helped that much more lol.

If you open the Creation Kit and dig around, you'll find that the base chance for random magic armor and weapons is 10%. 50% more of the gives you 15%. Note that the chance variables are inverted (100 - the variable so 90 becomes 10%). I've decided not to bother.

If it's for monetary reasons I'd say: "no" for a Thief character because with the Fences you'll be rich in no time. For a non-Thief character it might be worth it. Those being said you have to use 4 perks in Lockpicking to get to it so I'll never get it.

I have more gold than I know what to do with. You can come across interesting items just by exploring and popping into to merchants regularly to see what they have in stock. Anything I need & can't find/buy, I make myself (smithing & enchanting). Found my first daedric item (unenchantd boots) at level 48.
So for me it's a useless perk.

If you cannot smith, it increases your chances of getting your Daedric Set up.

I say be bold and take it...I benefitted from having it for sure. My last character was a master thief who loved to collect money from stolen and found items in chests. Anything that will enhance my finding luck is good to me...

I'd say go whole hog with the lockpicking tree if you're a thief, if for no other reason than RP.

Good thread, I had totally forgot about this perk as I've never taken any from this tree before. My warrior is at level 49 and has plenty of spare perks as I don't do enchanting or smithing so all I've needed perk wise is a few from heavy armor, one handed and two handed. Doesn't use archery, block etc.

I got my first bit of rare loot at 46, a Dragonscale (whichever one is the light version anyway) armour and I found a Daedric Battleaxe at 49, I find it worthwhile to go back to the Dragon Peaks and raid the chests again after they respawn. If you don't want to deal with the Ancient Dragons just hit them with marked for death, two hits with a crappy weapon will do them in.

Gonna try this perk out, should be a help to my warrior as he only wears/wields what he finds or buys on his travels.

Yes. The real question is: Do you want to get the four worthless prerequisite perks just to get the treasure hunter perk?

I agree! I have found great stuff in loot without having to invest perk points in the lock picking tree.I also have more gold than I need. In my opinion, spend the perks in another skill tree that will help your character fight/survive better.

It's worth it, if you see monetary gain as an achievement. On my second playthrough, I got this perk early as possible, and now are sitting at 1.3 million septim with lot's of quests still to do. I reckon I'll break the 3 million mark once all the dlc's are done with this character.
