Tried four different servers

And Steam is still too busy to let me play my game.

I am immensely unhappy about this as I have a hard copy game and feel that limiting my ability to play with my property (Which I purchased for $60) when I choose via Steam is unnecessary.

I've got a feeling that you need Steam online for the first start-up with the DLC. I'll bet after that you can run with Steam offline so busy serevers shouldn't enter into it.

Tell me again how Steam was considered a good thing for a single player, offline game?

You'll get the thread locked if you start that conversation.

It needs to stay open so they see this.

I only put Steam online when I need to get something from them. If you're unhappy about them choosing Steam, why not do the same?

Edit:Bethesda seeing this is not likely to matter. It's a Steam issue and I'm sure they're scrambling to address it as we speak...if they can.

They can't, it's a spike in user activity due to everyone pulling down files. It will pass.

It very much is Bethesda's issue. They chose to go through Steam.

This IS a gamesas issue. They're the one who rammed Steam down our throats, now the very first release (other than myriad patches), and Steam CAN'T HANDLE IT. What? You're going to start making excuses for Steam now, aren't you? About how their servers are overloaded and we should just be patient. Troll turds! They knew this was coming - why aren't they ready??

And this should have absolutely no effect on a persons game when theyre not trying to download anything. Edit: Shouldnt, not doesnt :P, Im saying its a problem with the way Steam works.

I would almost go so far as to have two separate installs of Steam, one for online and one for offline games. Except I only use Steam in offline mode anyway.

Sadly. And they know these bottlenecks will happen as everyone goes to ONE place.

Something all downloaders tried to avoid for years.

I shouldn't have to wait. That's the inherent problem.

No it's Steam not giving a service. Beth bought the service from Steam. Technically it's a Steamissue. Beyond that this is peak hour and if the CK and DLC wasn't released through Steam but through a regular website it would have crashed too and won't let you download, this is unspecific for Steam but simply the effect of you downloading data from the internet.

If this is FREE content, why can't they mirror it for Christmas sake!!!

It's private property and purchasing it to use it whenever and however you want.

They can... that's what I write. Every game on Steam that has DLC needs to sell in on Steam, that doesn't exclude other sources.

Would your rather have EA's Origin?

Digital Download systems among them all.. steam cannot be beat..... it's patching and updating and download system currently is #1 on the planet..

Use it properly and you won't generally have issues, offline mode has been available from the start, DLC download for HD Textures doesn't occur right away, you have to manually trigger it.... I personally tested 2 other systems and not only logged in fine. .but start skyrim without a hitch.. so either it's the specific server you've selected, or your internet connection to steam is kinda bad at which point general internet weather is a factor, outside of yours and steams control. Again Offline mode would have resolved this.

Steam has dozens of servers mirroring the same content... pick a server that is perhaps far away or unlikely to be in high demand....

Strange.... 90% of the computer problems that people experience is user created..

I just set steam to offline mode on another machine.... disconnected the internet to ensure it's offline... started skyrim.. no issues ;)
