Trouble setting up mouse buttons

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 10:13 pm

I just installed a gaming mouse (Logitech G300) which allows me to setup different button settings (called a profile) and easily switch between them.

I've created a test profile for Skyrim, but I'm having trouble starting Skyrim. I need to enter a link to an .exe file to start the program. I tried using C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe which is the .exe specified in the shortcut that was set up when I installed Skyrim from Steam. But this doesn't work: when I try it, I bring up the first Steam screen that I normally get (the one with STORE LIBRARY NEWS ...) but that's all it does. Nothing works: can't select anything, no pull=down menus, can't even cancel out with the X button -- have to use task manager to end it. I've tried this both in offline mode and online mode, and have the same problem either way.

Does anyone know of the appropriate .EXE file I should be linking to? Has anyone used a gaming mouse to invoke Skyrim? Is anyone familiar with using mouse buttons to invoke any other game? Help help help ... (drowning) ... (blub) ...

I'm on a 64-bit PC running Windows 7.

Have you tried using the TESV.exe in Skyrim's main folder?

...Steam/steamapps/common/skyrim

Any time you need to figure out the proper exe file for a profile simply load up the game, Ctrl+Alt+Delete out so you can start the Task Manager, then look for the exe that the game is running by.

In this case it would be as mentioned above: TESV.exe

Thanks, Lord Bafford, that worked perfectly. And, BioFringe, thanks to you, too -- what a great tip!
