Trouble with making a new NPC

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 12:04 am

I'm brand-new to the Creation Kit, and I want to make a new NPC- a Khajiit that is able to be recruited as a follower. I've found a tutorial by Bethesda on how to use the Creation Kit to make an NPC... the only problem is, it seems my creation kit is broken. When I go to make a new NPC, in the field where I should be able to choose race, this is what it show:

In other words, absolutely no option for race. I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the CK, but this issue still persisted. If anyone can offer assistance, I would be very happy.

Are you loading Skyrim.esm via the File > Data option before you start, or are you just opening the CK and going straight to trying to create a race? Click Data, double-click Skyrim.esm so its got a check in the box, then hit OK.

Loading skyrim.esm is the first step for creating any mod. Thats what gives the CK all the vanilla Skyrim data to work with. Without doing that, the CK doesn't have any of the data from Skyrim. It doesn't have any pre-created races, its a completely blank slate.

I had tried selecting Skyrim.esm, but I hadn't know that you had to double-click. I double-clicked it, waited for the box to check, then loaded it up... then it started taking a lot of time loading, then it popped up with an error that said that "MASTERFILE: NavmeshInfo 00028e37 has no parent space, ignoring", then asking me if I want to disable all warnings for this content.

What should I do now?

Sounds good. Thank you, now I can finally start working on this new NPC! If anyone is really good at making NPCs on the Creation Kit, maybe you can mentor me? This project will only be small, at first, but later I want to create a quest for the NPC and use a custom voice (my friend is going to be the voice actor.)

Ugh, another problem. In the Traits tab, the fields for Weapon List and Alignment are completely blank and have no options. Is that normal?

I believe alignment may be a leftover option from Fallout? That had karma, so you could align character as good or evil, but I don't think any of that remains in Skyrim. I may be wrong, though.

And no clue about Weapon List.

I've gotten to the part where you add appearance, but no matter what I do, the preview head does not change from the default Khajiit face. How can I tell what my character will look like? I've already tried forcing the preview to update, but there is no change.
