When I try to sneak , I get spotted really easily even at night in the shadows. Im level 80 sneak and I have all availible perks in the sneak tree.

Am I doing somthing wronge or do i just svck at being an assasin.

Ive watched videos and done all the same stuff they do but it just doesnt work right

Are you wearing heavy armor?
Are the NPCs facing you?
Do you have muffle boots?

With a sneak of 50 and just 1/5 perks in the first Sneak Perk, you should be rather hard to detect.

Do you wear heavy armor? The sound emitting from heavy armor makes you very loud. Try light armor, and sneak enchanted armor, such as the Dark Brotherhood or thieves guild armor.

no ,nightengale armor

The NPC was facing me on some occasions but on others were they couldnt see me, i would shoot an arrow at his buddy and he would magically detect me even though he cant see me( I have had them directly at me even though I try to draw them away with an arrow)

Another time I went to attack a guy and I missed but he ran right at me and detected me even thouth Im sure he was facing away form me

Anyone have any golden rules for sneaking or somthing

If you shoot an arrow, hitting them or not. The eye will partially open. You are still not detected at that time. It's not until the eye is fully opened, that you are actually detected. Otherwise they are just looking for you. If you do not kill an NPC with the first shot, others nearby will be put on alert.

If you are perked out with 80 Sneak, you should be able to jump up and down in their face at high noon. Well, not exactly, but you get the idea.

I only have the problem when I try to attack at range so mabe I just need to be more conservative with my bow?

I dont have a problem when things get close quarters unless i do somthing stupid

It just seems weird that I can sneak attack someone from a distance and his friends all know exactly where I am and start running towards me

What level are you?
What kind of bow are you using?
What kind of arrows?
What is your Archery skill?

If you have the NG armor, I assume you have the bow? You should be one shotting most enemies with that.

dwarven bow
Steel arrows(usually)
40 archery

I lost the nightengale bow due to a long story which is rather emberrasing

I haven't played on the 1.6 beta patch yet, but I have found myself wondering if 1.5 changed something about the sneak mechanics.
I have 100 sneak, all light armour, a ring enchanted with +30-40% sneak and every perk on the skill tree except the last one, and I seem to get spotted in dungeons a good bit more easily than before, though as you'd expect of my sneak level I can still get away with a lot.
It could be a mod thing, though I have nothing installed that should in any way affect that.
Having to adapt at such a late stage in the game is a little difficult, but if sneaking has been made harder it's not necessarily a bad thing - as much fun as I had it was broken as all hell and too easy to get away with anything by creeping about.

Well, I'm sorry to hear that. At least you kept your pants...You did keep your pants?...Right?

I would work on improving my ranged skills or just start attacking with a dagger from up close.

THAT will do it. It most likely fell through then game world. Those damn shouts are a pain. If you do not kill an enemy with a single shot or stab, others will be alerted. Increase your ranged damage with better arrows, Smithed improved bow, the Sneak perk for bows...any any potion for marksman.

EDIT : I assume you are playing on Adept difficulty?

I was trying to beat the shout by shooting the guy then immediatly sheathing weapons and running to a diff spot so that he couldnt stop and yell but he just caught me off guard and now I am forever without my NG bow

(I actually didnt like the NG bow anyways)

EDIT: I just remembered that I cranked the diff up to make it more of a challenge (still doesnt explain how i get spotted so easily)

Sneak is (partially) broken I'd say - On one of my characters I'm playing, sneak is fully maxed out, have ring of enchantment, light armor and a hunting bow of sapping (legendary).. and NPC/animals spot me long before I spot them.. BUT, I should point out, that it is only this way when I load my save game.. eventually (anywhere from 20 to 30mins) the game seems to correct itself and my sneak/assassin goes back to being a shadow.. I've moved left and right and other erratic movements fully face on at a Draugr Deathlord or Dragon Priests and they don't see me. I just have to wait for my game to catch up to me, so to say.

When you shoot an arrow, and the eye is partially opened, make sure you're in a dark spot, and stand completely still. The eye will slowly close and the enemies will go back to their original positions. Then shoot another arrow. If you just shoot 50 arrows at once, you'll surely be detected.

If you are getting spotted when using ranged weapons, due to not killing the enemy, then that explains a lot.

I recently started a new assassin character and have a sneak of 55 and only the minimum amount of perks to get to Assassin's Blade. That is 1/5 in the first Perk. I have the DB armor and can sneak in the shadows unseen. I get detected when in the enemies direct eyesight and in a little light. That is the way it should be. I have played with all of those other perks and you don't need them. I am playing with the last 1.5 patch.

I believe the last perk, shadow warrior can effectively hide you again if you get up from crouch and crouch again.

If only you were really crouching instead of just bending down.
