Troubleshooting a save file and INI file

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 9:22 pm

I cannot load my save game files, as soon as I try I get a CTD. This started to happen as soon as I tried to tweak the ini files. I also installed a few different graphic mods
SkyBoost_r4, AUTOINSTALLER_v16HDR_Realistic_Colors_and_Real_Nights-1875, and 2 types of camera tweaks. I then installed the latest graphic card drivers for my gforce GTS 250.

I have done 2 fresh reinstalls to no avail, I have uninstalled all of the mods and tried loading them one by one, I have also rolled back my graphic driver. None of these have worked so far and after reading a post on here that said
Importantly: Aside from lowering performance and causing potential instability due to the greatly increased resource usage when raising uGridsToLoad, if you save a game after you have altered this value, the new value will be incorporated into your saved game. This is worth noting because the game only allows you to load a saved game which has an equal or lower uGridsToLoad value than your current value; you will not be able to open a saved game with a higher uGridsToLoad value. This means if you lower your uGridsToLoad value again, you won't be able to load up the saves which used the higher value. So you should extensively test any change to your uGridsToLoad before committing to saving the game. If you need to revert a change in uGridsToLoad in an existing save game follow the steps below:
I am lead to believe that something in the ini file is trying to reference something in the save file that conflicts.

I am just wondering if there is a program that will let me see where the error or conflict is in my save file.

What you quoted is what may be causing it, I believe. For example, I tweak the UGridsLoad value from default 3 to 9 (odd numbers usually) and I save using that new tweak, but if I revert back to 3 and try to load, it will not work.

My only advice I can give is to revert the uGrids line back to its original default 3 and load a pre-tweaked save, Im afraid.

Sorry if this means your save is dead, I wish I had a workaround for you :(
