I'll go on record in saying that Brink is a hit or miss FPS game. You either can tolerate it's many flaws and enjoy the game for what it is, or you loathe it's very existence for not living up to it's hype. It's been said in now literally hundreds of threads, but anyone who fell into the Brink hype machine has no one to blame but themselves for feeling let down. Is it Bethesda/SD's fault for releasing a pretty much unfinished game? Yes. There's no denying that. But anyone who actually believed this was going to be a shining beacon of hope in the genre is fooling themselves, even if it wasn't rushed. It's a brand new IP, a brand new concept and has difference execution from the other FPS games on the market. That being said, the ideas and concepts Brink brings to the dance are indeed unique...just not very well implemented. And there in lies where a lot of people, including you Ghost...are seeing red. You believed this game was going to be something it's not. Do you have a right to be pissed about it? Hell yea. You spent your money on a game that you thought would be one thing, but turned out to be another. But on the other side of the coin, it's also on you for falling so completely into the hype machine that proceeded Brink that you didn't bother to do your own research, you merely went with what the media and advertisemants said.
Now, I don't know how long you've been playing Brink...if you're a new comer or you've been here since day 1 like myself and a lot of others. But I do know that a little research goes a long way. Me personally, I enjoy playing Brink. I know the game can be leaps and bounds better, and I know where the improvements need to be implemented. But I enjoy playing the game for what it is...a departure from the cookie cutter FPS games that follow the same formula to the letter. Brink is like Vodka sauce...an acquired taste. You either like the different texture and taste of it on your pasta, or you think it's gross and would rather stick to your standard issue Tomato sauce you've been eating since you were a kid. Does that make you wrong for not liking Vodka sauce? No. What makes you wrong is if you tried it thinking it was going to be the best thing you ever tasted, but spat it back up after your 1st bite. Bottom line...if you played the game like many of us did...with an open mind and no expectations positive or negative and came to the conclusion that you didn't like the game, no harm...no foul. But if you played the game thinking it was going to be the best thing since sliced bread, expecting it to be a mind blowing experience and were let down because it didn't live up to your high expectations, you did yourself an injustice of being fooled. Simply put, there's a right and wrong reason why to not like Brink. And from what you state in your post...your's is definitely the wrong reason. Might be the only reason you have...but it wouldn't be if you didn't put so much into thinking it was going to be an A-list title.
When's the last time a 1st year FPS game came out that lived up to it's hype? As in a game that WASN'T built from the format of a previous game...a brand spanking new engine. Halo...in 2001. And Bungie had the financial muscle of Microsoft backing it. SD didn't. If they had a powerhouse publisher like say EA or Rockstar backing it and not a mid-tier one like Bethesda...threads like this would probably not exist, and no one would have any complaints. But in essence, Brink is a small company developed, 1st year IP that was published by a middle of the road publisher. That in and of itself lessened my expectations of the game to the point of not putting to much into if it's flawless or not...because I knew it
wasn't going to be flawless. Hence...I kept an open mind about what the game would have...because I knew it was going to have a lot of things that wouldn't "be right" in it being a new game, with new ideas. Sometimes, new ideas don't work, especially in as tried and true a genre as FPS games. But that withstanding, I enjoy Brink for what it is...something different. Might not be perfect...at all. But it's different, and it's fun in it's differences to the rest of the pack.
