Trying to get married, but it all goes chaotic...

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 12:28 am

Ok, I had a go at marrying that leo woman. I spoke to the Priest of Mara and he says `Ok`. I talk to the woman and she says `See you at the wedding`.

I go back to the temple and I`m just told, `Congrats on wedding` that`s it, nothing more. So I wait around, and wait and wait.

`Maybe I should fetch her and bring her to the temple`. I dismiss my Follower who`s been around all this time and go and grab the woman- `Wedding failed?` What?

I reload, go to the temple, dismiss my Follower and wait. I wait, wait, wait. Finally after like 12 hours, a bunch of people walk in, but then there`s two people dead on the floor and everyone plus my potential marriage partner leaving. Everyone in the Temple suddenly hates me and the Leo woman won`t talk to me.

Nothing will fix this. What have I done wrong?

The only thing I can think is maybe I should not have started the marriage while having a Follower, but this will mean i`m going to have to go right way back on my Save. :(

Sometimes NPC's will acidentally be "crushed" and you'll be blamed. Just reload and it shouldn't happen again.

Sounds like a real marriage. :nono:

I'd read a little before I got married and it could be the follower thing, but I think I read that the fiance can be killed while travelling so that could've been the issue wherein she never showed up.

When I've had bugs with quests I do a few others so it changes the game's 'mindset' and then retried them - it's worked so far.

Ok thanx for the bits of advice, all.

Sounds like a major bug. I`ll go right back before I initiated the marriage and try again. If it still fails I`ll just drop it.

No you don't. I've always waited in the Temple of Mara until 6am the next day and everyone shows up perfectly fine. Remember that the wedding starts in the morning, not the evening (from DAWN until DUSK).

I`ve done all this, the game still breaks. It`s bugged.

EDIT:

Found Solution.

DO NOT START THE MARRIAGE AT ALL IF YOU HAVE A FOLLOWER.

I went back to my old save when I was exploring out of Riften and dismissed my Follower. Then I went to the Lioness women and she was interested. then I went to the guy in the Mara temple and he says the marriage is the next day dawn till dusk. Went to sleep and the next day (any time is fine), i walked into the temple and everyone is there. Everything went smoothly.

You`ve got to drop any Follower before the whole thing. Dropping the Follower at any time after you initiate the whole marriage thing won`t work and it will still break.

Marriage is bugged. Bethesda needs to fix it.

Hope this helps others.

I think this may be the case. Lydia was with me when releasing Kodlak Whitemane from his animal spirit. I knew then that Aela would be free. So I put the amulet on right there. Aela didn't notice, but she had the dialog option. Fetch thee a priest! I thought she should come with me, even though she said something about hanging out in that dreary place. I asked her for her help, and she pointed out that I already had somebody, Lydia. So I told "She Who Is Sworn to Carry My Burdens" to take a powder.

Turning back to Aela, I asked her to follow me. I think it was at this point that the marriage quest failed. She blew up, saying something about how dare I speak to her after all that has happened. I freaked out for a moment until I saw the dialog option along the lines of, "It was all a misunderstanding. Can't we start over?" It worked, though she said I should watch myself in the future. I wasn't going to say anything more until after the wedding! Strangely, she followed me there, and Lydia went home, although she did turn up for the wedding.
