Trying to help a friend get a laptop

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 2:07 pm

Right, so I'm trying to help a friend get a laptop. He's looking for something within the price range of $600-700 that he can game on.

He'd like one that can run at least TF2 and The Old Republic.

The only thing I can think of would be an Alienware MX11. Do any of you guys have any good suggestions?

I can't really think of any off the top of my head that would run Battlefield 3 even remotely well in your price range. Maybe if you up it to ~$1000?

The m11x won't be able to run BF3.

If it were my call, I'd up the price range. The thing is, he's working on a limited amount of money at the moment.

What would be a good gaming laptop within that price range?

since battlefield 3 hasn't even released yet, i'd inclined to tell you that any laptop that could run battlefield 3 will likely be double that price range, so your friend may be out of luck or should consider a desktop computer if he doesn't necessarily need it to be a laptop

That's what I told him, but he's very adamant about it being a laptop within that price range.

if hes adamant about it being a laptop in that price range then he won't be able to play battlefield 3 on it unless he waits like 5 years

Exactly.

You can probably build a desktop in that price range and be able to play battlefield 3 to some extent (depends on if you already have basics like monitor etc.)

Newegg might be worth a look to narrow down what would be best for the price range

Ok haha, I guess I keep thinking of it as swtor. I was unsure if there was another tor.

You should be able to run it within that price range.

Those aren't bad choices. Here's one that's even better overall:

The Asus does have the better HDD, but that is the cheaper and more feasible component to replace compared to the CPU.
