Ubisoft

So what’s the big picture of Ubisoft. Apparently there a demonized company that none really appreciate. I'm always seeing people say there a terrible company. I know there placed all over the world I have come to like “Ubisoft Montreal”. There have created great games and have one I’m extremely looking forward to "Farcry 3"

Why do most hold a grudge against them what have they done to carry the title "Demonized" I always thought Activision was the carrier of the title but aberrantly there are two.

People demonize every big publisher. Wouldn't read too much into it, consumers will always hate a big company for some reason or another (but still buy the products).
Ubisoft publishes great games, people are just annoyed at the moment by the DRM (and Mr Caffeine).

I dislike Ubisoft because of their DRM and I refuse [and have not] bought any of their newer products because of it.

They unfairly shaft PC gamers with their bonkers DRM policy but other than that, they have and still do produce some quality francises that are both popular and fresh. My only gripe over them (since I play nearly all Ubisoft games I'm interested in on 360, avoiding the DRM) is that they left AC2 blatantly unfinished and tagged the remaining bits on as overpriced DLC, a la a certain other developer :stare:

I dislike them because they pooped on Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six. Been years since I've heard anything about these two, probably because they couldnt compete with Infinity Ward....shame.

They also seem to "unexpectedly" need to delay the PC release of a large number of their multi-platform games

I dislike Ubisoft for putting their grubby hands on the Heroes of Might & Magic series ruining the 5th installment creating such a crappy game I′m ashamed it's a part of this awesome strategy series. And then they are also going to make Heroes of Might & Magic 6 which they intend to screw up too!

I miss New World Computing :( They were by far the superior to Ubisoft.

I will mention though that if it wasn't for them dirtying the HoM&M series I wouldn't really mind them but as it is I don't want to buy any games by them as I don't want to support them. I don't support those that wreck good things made by others.

In fairness you don't really need to demonize Ubisoft, they do a grand job of it themselves.

Let's take a look at one of their upcoming releases.. Driver: San Francisco

- On PC it'll have always on DRM, meaning that if your internet connection for whatever reason was to cut out, you'd be unable to play the game at all, period.
(People like to complain about Steam, but at least you can play your games should your internet go out)

- The game, amazingly, does not support steering wheels on PC, that's right.. A driving game will not support steering wheels. (This smacks of lazy port)

- Despite assurances to the contrary "At least the PC version will ship at the same time as the console versions!" The game is now being delivered a month late on PC, something they've managed to do with a few of their other PC titles as well this summer, and with no reason given, not even a valid one.

This is just one example of Ubisoft and their amazing relationship with PC, there are many many more. Which is a shame, as a lot of games they publish i'd actually love to play (Silent Hunter 5), but i'll not give them a single centilla of my cash.

That in itself is why I couldn't be less interested in whatever Ubisoft is bringing to market. Get rid of the idiotic DRM and I might take a look, but until then, they might as well not exist.

If their packaging of the Morrowind GotY is anything to go by, you're not missing anything: it was so appallingly bad that even Amazon thought it was a bootleg.

I took a look.. they pooped on Settlers :(

The Steam version seems not to have the absurd DRM infesting it, though I only discovered that after spending an eternity trying to wring a refund out of either Steam or Ubisoft, both of whom repeatedly said "bother the other guys about it". Finally someone (I forget who after the litany of unhelpful replies) said that contrary to what Steam's Settlers page has buried in the blurb about said DRM, it's not actually present. Would've saved a whole lot of aggro had they said that in the first place.

I tested it and lo and behold, no always-on DRM (assuming they haven't updated it since). But after all the aggravation, any inclination to actually play it had long since departed... :(

I guess that's an example of the other major complaint about Ubisoft which is the rather indifferent customer service.

Yeah, I just looked at my Morrowind GOTY and...urgh. I think it would have been better if they had put all the awards and, if they can, the age rating on the back. I haven't bought any games from them recently (latest was Oblivion GOTY, I hope they don't give the Bethesda games DRM) but I don't get how if other companies can, why can't they make non-idiotic copy-protection?
