Ubuntu Or Kubuntu Customization

Post » Sat Dec 03, 2011 4:08 am

I really like the dash in Ubuntu 11.04. But I heard that Kubuntu is a lot more customizable than Ubuntu and I really like customizing stuff. Should I get a program so I can customize Ubuntu or should install Kubuntu instead?

You can just install KDE with yoru current install and switch between them before logging in.
I believe you can just do sudo apt-get install kde to get the packages but there might be a 4 on the end for some reason.

Wouldn't it change the dash if I switched over to KDE?

What he's saying is you can choose whether you want to boot into Ubuntu's dash (whatever the hell that is, I'm assuming Unity) or KDE at the login screen (display manager). It wouldn't change anything other than what desktop environment you are using on any given login.

Though the correct install is sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop if you want the full thing.

He could still do the base KDE install to get it withotu all the Ubuntu logos and stuff however.

Basically what I want is Ubuntu's dash, start menu, and search bar with KDE widgets.

So what your saying is I can have one or the other not both right?

I like the Ubuntu Classic interface for customization. I don't like those widget things though, so customization to me is mainly appearance.

But the thing is I really like Ubuntu's dock and the start menu in the upper part of the screen. I really don't want to change it if I don't have to.

Thanks DEFRON this is exactly what I was looking for. I have one more question can I use Enlightenment as a Desktop environment for Ubuntu?
