Ugh @ stupid shopkeeper schedules!

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 10:52 am

Why the hell do shopkeepers decide to go walkabout in the middle of the day... Like its 12 noon and Im trying to enter a general store and I find it locked and the damn shopkeeper halfway across town. So damn annoying.

Yeah I know what you mean. I hate that as well. Maybe that is meant to be more realistic. Maybe they are going to the outhouse or eating or something.

We close for business during lunch hours and do not take deliveries. You can show up but only the receptionist is likely here. Maybe the shopkeeper went to grab lunch?

The only time I've observed a mid-day break, the character I wanted to sell stuff to was, in fact, in his home sitting in front of a fire with a pot on it while someone else cooked.

If you Fast Travel in and out of a city, then the NPC schedules can get mixed up. This happens for example if you FT into a city, the NPCs start their schedule, then you travel out of the city, but come back before the NPCs can complete their scheduled task. When I was doing something in Windhelm, I got the NPCs to run their shops from Midnight until 8 AM or so one time.

Simple solution is to wait somewhere for 72 hours, then wait again until the shop is supposed to open and all should be well again.

Or, just hang out in another Hold doing things for 3 or 4 game days, then go back.

Lunch? Gone fishing? Siesta? Mid-day worship?
Seriously, in real life small towns, stores DO close for all of those things.

Guess people only want realism in NPC behavior when it is convenient to their game play...

Yep it's pretty annoying. However all you have to do is wait an additional hour *after* you've waited and they should be in their shops. Usually.

The alchemist in dawnstar is worst. I think she opens from 1pm till 5pm. Little old lady with no grand kids to help, I guess. Niranye in Windhelm really is hard working. She opens from like 7am to 9pm.

I was just in Dawnstar, and she opened her shop around 0800 or so. I have found it closed at, say, 1400 or so, but also open at that hour, so I don't know what's up with her schedule. I also had a random oddity earlier: when I was in Solitude at around 1800, Radiant Raiment was locked despite normally being open until 2000 or so.

Some of the merchants who operate out of marketplace stalls have some really weird hours; I do FT a lot while selling, though, which probably contributes to that.

That`s exactly how I see it and a nice touch too. But I suppose if people whine enough even this will be dumbed down. heck, they might even go back to Morrowind where everyone stood around waiting just for you.

There are a few merchants who are open 24/7, like Elrindir in the Drunken Huntsman (Whiterun). You can also wake up the court wizards to barter if needed, if they're asleep.

I haven't noticed any of these wierd schedules personally, though I also don't fast travel. I also haven't been inside Solitude or Windhelm yet, so maybe I'll encounter some of these merchants when I do.

The merchants who operate on the streets usually don't have much money, so I rarely barter with them. My favorite merchants are the ones I can invest with, and can buy more of my alchemy potions.

Hehe, this is exactly what bethesda will alter in the next TES or in an expansion. Having NPC schedules is an outdated and un-fun feature, which is why they removed it from daggerfall and made NPC's always open and at their shops in morrowind.

The war hammer and sky forge in whiterun do this to me all the time. No problems with other shops.

I've only ever had this happen once. The thing that I don't understand is why every shop/house in my game are open/awake 24 hours of the day! How am I supposed to be a thief when my marks never sleep? :\

Solution: Wait 1 hour at a time, 4 hours in a row. That'll spawn them into their shop.

I find the Radient Raiments shop to have a very odd schedule, but perhaps that is because I killed the shop owner Endarie (after she snet thugs to kill me for stealing the shop key) and only Taarie works there now. She's often out collecting firewood during the time the store should be open. I could really use them to sell jewelry to.

I think it's realistic. I mean, who wants to sit behind the counter top and do nothing all day long? They might just go for a walk to get some fresh air and to streach their legs.
