Ugrid higher settings, 100% safe proof?

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 2:20 am

Hi Community!

I have often read thru Threads about setting Ugrid higher then 5. But I also did read some side effects about it.. So I wanted to ask, is any FINAL Answer about if its safe to use f.e. 7 or are still unaware of side effects ? I am aware about the save issue, thats ok..but anything else?

Thanks =)

I use ugrids at 7 and I haven't had any stability issues, I don't think anything is ever full proof though given all the different pc configurations, just experiment using another save file so you don't mess up your original and see how it plays

Your game can crash if you revert back to the default setting of '5' after changing it when you saved your game on another ugrids setting. Be sure to make a completely new save file and test out your new ugrids setting. 7 works fine for me and most people. I don't think my PC is stable enough for 9, but is okay for people with good specs. Anything above 11 is overkill and will most likely crash the game and break quests.

If you crash or ever want to revert back on a save that has the higher setting, load up your save follow these steps:
  • Bring up the console
  • type setini “ugridstoload:general” 5
  • hit Enter
  • type saveini
  • hit Enter
  • type refreshini
  • hit Enter
Close console and then make a brand new save. You should be good to go after that.

And using 7 will not break any quests then? How can quest go broken loading cells in higher distances ?

Thanks for the Answers.

7 is just about right. 9 and 11 are fine, too, but you need to test it on those setting and see if you get any crashed and any other issues. The higher grids needed to load, the more elements that will be loaded in those grids. Elements you can't and won't be able to see, such as NPC's, items & objects and they won't function properly due to the game not meant to render them functional at that high; and once they're loaded, they will become erroneous.

It's essentially the same as changing the time scale and it messing up NPC's daily routine and tasks, whereas here in ugrids they will act on their own and not very stable.

Example: you need to follow an NPC who travels far and a scripted event won't start until all of the elements are loaded properly in place, but an unnecessary high setting for ugrids could break that sooner. Rule: Don't load what you don't need.
