uGridsToLoad Parameter

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 12:01 pm

Hey Friends,

Because LOD generation is completely messed up in the CK, I wonder, if there is a similar parameter in the skyrimprefs.ini that simply makes the engine load more cells without using the LODs.
It's really hard to test the atmosphere of the landscape ingame with only one cell loaded and without LODs :(

Any ideas?

Doesn't the one in your title do just that? Default is 5, meaning it loads a grid of 5x5 cells around the player in full detail. If you made it 7, it would do a 7x7 grid. Depending on your computer you could probably even go as high as 11 or 13 if you have a good one.

Also, LOD generation works just fine in the CK. The only broken part, is that some people get some issues with tree's, and land textures dont generate properly. But for simple testing, the CK will generate 'good enough' LOD just fine.

Thank you for your reply Alexander,

Yep, I'm using this parameter with a value of 25 in the CK, but I was looking for a similar parameter for the game itself, not just the CK.
Ok that sounds interesting. So far I wasn't able to create LODs with the CK without a crash :(

I thought that was a setting for the game? For the CK I just change the number in the Misc tab of the preferences window. In like Skyrim.ini or something there should be a UGridsToLoad setting that alters it ingame.

Oh O.o that would be new to me. The only ini where I can find this parameter is the SkyrimEditor.ini :(

Basti,

Put it in your Skyrim.ini under the [General] section. Values should be odd numbers. Default value is 5, go up in increments. Anything past 9 will probably be unstable though. Don't expect to get 25 to work. For instance I use this value in my game:

uGridsToLoad=9uExterior Cell Buffer=128uInterior Cell Buffer=32
Technically uExteriorCellBuffer is supposed to be the value of uGridsToLoad + 1 Squared, but I like things to be in multiples of 8. :smile:
