Ulfric Stormcloak...Dovakiin?

I was wondering, since Ulfric Stormcloak can use shouts, is he a dragonborn?

Nope. Anyone can use the Thu'um, provided they are trained in the art. The Greybeards taught Ulfric, and they are no more Dragonborn than Brand-Shei.

Did you actually pay any attention to the story or did you mute the dialog and blare slayer music through it all...

The Dovahkiin are not the only ones in the lore who wielded the power of the Thu'um. There are stories of some voice masters who had assisted King Harold's army in shouting down walls and gates during sieges. The Greybeards, Ulfric Stormcloak, Jurgen Windcaller and the 17 other disputants all used the Thu'um, but were not Dragonborn themselves.

All the non-Dovahkiin users of the voice could only use the Thu'um through constant practice (which could take decades just to learn 1-2 words). The only thing special about the Dovahkiin is that their power(s) were bestowed upon them by the grace of Akatosh, which gave them the ability to learn the Thu'um with ease in comparison to with their peers.

At any rate, that's how I interpret it.

Brand-Shei wields even greater power, for he is the Lizardopted!

Is this thread proof that common sense isn't all that common anymore?

I mean, wow, it's a bit like watching a movie and just ignoring all the non-action scenes.

One NPC someplace actually said, that there doesn't have to be just ONE dragonborn, there might be more than one.

They might not be awakaned yet. So in this case, case is not closed. :)

It would be awesome to meet another Dragonborn in the game.

No, he is certainly no Dragonborn. If he was the Greybeards would have known. No, he s simply a man who in his youth managed to learn to shout.

Even draugrs can use shouts but probably they are at an advantage since they speak the ancient dragon tongue.

Among the living ones, probably also the Jarl of Whiterun can use the Th'um since he also went there in his youth. (it's not clear because he says he went there for pilgrimage but then he describes the place and the greybeards as if he stayed there for some time)

According to UESP he didn't learn to use the Thu'um.

It makes you wonder if Talos or Tiber was really a dovakiin, or he was bluffing with the blessing of Kynareth & Amulet of the Kings.

The difference between you and Ulfric and the Greybeards is this:

You were born with the soul of a dragon. You are kin to the dragons. Though in human form, you are a dragon in every sense.

You inherently can learn words of power and can speak the Dragon language. But you are unique from your brethren. You can absorb their souls and gain their knowledge. This is second nature you.

Ulfric is just an ordinary human being that acquired the knowledge of Thu'um through the teachings from the Greybeards. The Greybeards learned Thu'um in the same manner(I'm eluding to how).

No. Like any other said Ulfric managed to learn a shout or two from the greybeards. Sometimes I call them gaybeards when I'm feeling immature. now back on topic; He may know a simple FUS, but that dosen't make him Dovahkiin.

All the people who are not dragonborn or Dovakiin must train to master the Thu'um, i.e. Ulfric Stormcloak or the Greybeards. The reason a dragonborn differs is because they can actually absorb the soul of a dragon and learn its power instantly. Well maybe not in all cases, but in the characters at least.

It's worth pointing out that only Nords can shout, but the since the Dovakiin has the soul of a dragon, it doesn't matter what race he is.

I am unsure if this is correct. We know only Nords actually shout in the game, but is it because the other races can't or is it because other races didn't live under the Dragoncult and therefor never included it as a part of their culture?

I'm willing to bet, anybody can use the Thu'um
But they have to practice under the Greybeards, or maybe even an 80year old Dragonborn could teach them all, but still, I think with enough practice, any race could do it.....

You guys read the stones on the way up to High-Hrothgar right? Kyne gave the thu'um to the Nords to defeat the dragons. Only the Nords have the thu'um.

In the third part of http://www.imperial-library.info/content/evening-star-3e-432 a woman in a tavern demonstrates the thu'um to her peers, and, when questioned, speculates that anyone can learn the thu'um with enough practice.

Although certainly not definite proof, I'm inclined to agree with that notion.

No, Ulfric Stormcloak was surely not a Dragonborn. He just stayed at High Hrothgar as a child and thus learned the "FUS RO DAH" Shout from the Greybeards, since all humans can learn Shouts if they put enough effort into it.
