Ultimate Book Shelf Request

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 12:52 pm

Hi Betheseda!

You have all these wonderful books scattered throughout the game. I collect them (excluding tomes). I keep all of them in a room inside my house on the floor.

When you come out with DLC or an update, can we please have an ultimate book shelf? Something that has just enough room for all the books in the game.

I don't read all of them, I've read many though and sometimes plan on getting to other books. I'm sure a lot of effort was applied in creating the hundred plus books in game, so why not have some huge library like bookshelf to display their glory?

Would also be worthy of an archivement.

Thanks for the great game I hope you consider!

Hear hear, i salute you!
I find myself in a similar situation where i can't resist to take all those books that i find in caves, burial sites, fortresses, and all those other places where you can pick up books without stealing them from NPC's.
So lets see what mods can be created with the CK and hope that there is somebody that build that lovely library that we want

I read books often and If I find one superbly interesting, I keep it and bring it home. So far I have only filled up one full book shelf. I don't just randomly collect strange and just simply bad books.

Yeah, I'm trying to assemble a complete set as well... it's a nice little side challenge for a scholarly character like a wizard.

I have at least half a dozen copies of every book in the game by now. I dunno why, but I just collect them all. Not putting them on a shelf until I know EVERY bug is fixed

Great idea...and it should organize them so books with multiple volumes will automatically store next to eachother.....and maybe books that tell historical lore could store in a loose chronological order where possible.........................................I am trying to read every book in the game...eventually.

Collecting a copy of every book in Skyrim will be the back story to my next character The Librarian. A scholarly assassin who believes that the libraries late fees should be collected with extreme prejudice

This would be great. A nice, big room in one of the houses with a fireplace, an armchair, and enough shelving to store every book in the game. I'd love an option to store books alphabetically also. This can be done when you add them to the bookshelf from your inventory, but if you want to add more books later it's difficult.

Sidenote, but I wish there was some way to mark books that you've already read or that you own... so that it shows up when you pick one up. I hate thinking I found a new book, taking it home, only to find I already have it. Plus some of the less-interesting titles I don't read, but I always open them up in case they lead to a quest, but 100 hours in I can't remember which ones I've read!

Agreed, the book shelves are quite too small.

I agree with the OP. My bookshelves are all full with stacks and stacks of books all around.

The only home that has a decent amount of book shelves is Markarth, but even those are not enough. A room (in your house) should be setup like a library. Just calculate the numbers books and spell tomes in the game and equal that out to the number of shelves people need.

Aside from book shelves they should allow the player to interact with the alchemy shelves too. I remove the ingredients and then I have to pains takingly putt ingredients back on the shelves. Oh, I don't have to do this but it makes my alchemy room look nice. If that's too big of an issue then turn them into book cases once any item is removed from it. Bare shelves in a house just makes it look like crap.

My wish is books would weigh nothing. Or at least everytime you read one it would tell you if you have read it or if you own it. It avoid a ton of book sorting for me. I never know what I have and don't have. I'd actually even like a rating system, you would be somewhat of a book reviewer and that way you would know if you'd read it and if you liked a certain series, it would help for people like me that just go picking up all kinds of books.

Another cool idea would be to have more quests active with the books. Like a story that you had to follow to find a special item or something else. Not something that pops up in your quest log though. Something for people who miss the traditional style rpg's. You'd have to find everything on your own. Almost like a treasure map but much more complex and detailed. It's just that the stories these books have are better than most of the quests. You really feel like its not a hired person writing these books. You feel like it's the actual character who is the author. It would be so fun to have unmarked quests in these book series. Some of them would be long and challenging to figure out.

Anything thing to give us book hunters more to do.

They should do that but they better make an option to put it all in order so you can find that one book easy.

Agree with this. I hate it especially with the Spell Tomes. I cannot remember every damn spell I know. When I am at a merchant and want to purchase a new spell, I am constantly closing the store and checking if I learned it already.

A simple "Learned" on the tome information box would be most helpful and save a lot of aggravation.

easiest would just be an wall with lots of bookshelves, it will be out 10 minutes after the CK is released for the houses who are large enough for them.

I'd prefer that they fix all the bookshelf glitches first, but yeah that'd be great.

I got the mod to add two huge shelves to my Whiterun home. It's so much better. Still not perfect.

Okay I got it. Add a library room with a some sort of index to easily store and find books.

Example

You go into your library and and there is desk of some sort you go to. At the desk you put books down you've collected and your wife or whoever can store them in order. Then when you want a book you go to the same desk as search for it. Just select the book and your wife or servant person grabs it for you, when your done they put it away back in order. Also each book has noted you can put with it so you can remember something you need to about the book. Like something you liked about it or that your still searching for the rest of the series.

This would be great but to be honest at this point I'd even settle for being able to buy more bookshelves from a vendor or that guy with the Jarl.
