So I did pretty much all the side favor quests for the citizens of the pale, did the Waking Nightmare quest and then go to the Thane Skald thinking the other two options for Killing the Giant and Becoming Thane would appear, they did not. I only get the options to ask if the town would fare well against a dragon attack and how dawnstar was fareing due to the war(or something like that). I don't know if it had anything to do with the fact that I already cleared the giant camps aroudn the pale beforehand so I checked and for some reason the favor256(Thane Quest) and the favor153(Giant Quest) have been stopped and set to stage 200. This makes no sense as to why and I wondered if it as something I did so I loaded a save from the start of my game several hundred hours ago and same thing, both set to stage 200 whether i've done the waking nightmare quest for not or killed the giants. I've tried using the console to resetquest and then set stages and objectives from there but once using questreset the stage is set to 0 again for the two quests but then the game ignores any further commands I input to set any further stages and will remain permanantly at stage 0. Seeing the quest says its state is Stopped I also attempt to use the console command startquest 'questid' but that also does nothing and the two quests remain stopped. Has anyone else had this problem, know what I can do, or any way to fix it? I would welcome some support from Bethesda as well if they happen to know of any reasons for this or a way to work around it. At this point I really don't care much about the dialogue options although would love to be able to advance normally through it. But as long as I could get the rewards for the quests(ie the gold for the giant quest and the blade of the pale for the Thane quest) as well as be named and recognized Thane of the Pale then I would be satisfied with that. Anyway that anyone could help me I would be eternally grateful and thanks in advance.

What miscellaneous quests do you have? (Just the ones that point to locations in or near Dawnstar.)

The only one I currently have from the pale is to get the ring for that alchemist woman but I don't see that it's near anywhere around dawnstar. I've completed all other objectives that I can tell... but the dialogue for him to offer me the thane position or to hire me to kill the giant never shows...it's killin me

Can you complete that ring quest? It may be considered a 'fetch' quest and you can only have one 'fetch' quest open at a time because it will block others. It could also be blocking dialogue from Skald.

There's an additional bug related to Skald where the "Collect bounty from Skald." will never clear from your Journal. I have 4 or 5 of them in my Journal in one game. While that didn't prevent me from becoming Thane it could be related to you having the possible fetch quest open so try completing that one if you can.

Try `resetquest favor153 and see if that helps.

@buckom I can try that and see, not sure if it is or not but I also seem to be having problems with becoming thane of solitude now too...i've helped everyone in town before getting the quest to do so and done the necromancer quest and the horn placing quest for elisif and instead of me getting a objective to help anyone or purchase the house she merely says that i'm well on my way to the next step of becoming thane and says I can now purchase proudspire manor but nothing is set and then I use console commands to find that the thane favor quest for solitude is also been stopped and the stage set to 200...I have no idea what is going on here and i've been several hundred hours into my game...no way i'm starting over especially when it seems it's happening from the start of the game too...


@sandslice No I tried that too along with resetting the thane quest but it does nothing and if reset will also not progress past stage 0 afterwords...whatever is going on is really freakin me out

Weird. It's got to be the 'fetch' quest.

I'm on PS3, but I've heard that if you mess with console commands too much it can bug other quests. So could that be an issue?

Okay well to clarify I just finished the fetch quest and anything else related to the pale except for the giant quest and the thane quest...same thing with haafingar(I think that's where Solitude is at) and still nothing, and quests are simply set to stage 200 already and have been stopped before even started. I even tried finishing off some misc objectives thinking I might have too many and so completed about 5 or 6 of them and still no options...I have no clue as to what is happening or going on...I don't know what to do

The only think I can think is just do what you can elsewhere and maybe something will get shaken loose.

What really confuses me is that if I reset the quests...it doesn't help. I try to set stages after reset, it does nothing. I try using the startquest command, nothing. I try adding the topics to the converstaions of both myself and the jarl...no new topics added. What's the point in having a command in the system if the command in actuality does nothing or is easily ignored by a root script or whatever in the base programming? At this point I would just take some console commands that could set me as thane of the two provinces making sure everyone recognizes me as such and give me the blade of that hold as well and be done with it cause personally i'm getting sick of this stuff. I started over several times already because of stuff like this during earlier versions of the game including one with over 200 hours on it. Now I am getting well over several hundred hours on this playthrough and I really just couldn't stand to start over. My perfectionist attempt at having a perfect game is getting ruined by all these random bugs and glitches...I wouldn't really mind em if I could just console through them all but as stated this time i've been blockaded.
