Unable To Install

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 3:13 am

Hi, when i bought this game from Amazon there was absolutely no mention of any requirements of validating the installtion through the third party software Steam.

All the previous games this company has released have never required connection via this software, and i have enjoyed playing on them all.

Unfortunately, because New Vegas needs Steam, i seem unable to install the game.

As you can see, i do have an internet connection, i connect via a mobile broadband dongle, which Steam claim their software prevents from connecting to their servers because they don't think it is secure enough (they say the same about wifi connections - yet these work?).

I have a legitimate version of the game, i can provide a screenprint of the order details from Amazon, i have a Support issue raised with steam about this which they have replied to, which i can also provide screen prints off. But they are basically refusing to help me in any aspect of my problem.

Which is why i am asking now, is there a way of installing and validating my game without using this somewhat useless Steam software?

Thanks.

Nope. Steam is the DRM.

Seems some ISPs block ports Steam needs through mobile dongs.

You can call your provider and ask them directly if any of the following ports are blocked.

Steam Client

* UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive (Game client traffic)
* UDP 27015 to 27030 inclusive (Typically Matchmaking and HLTV)
* TCP 27014 to 27050 inclusive (Steam downloads)
* UDP 4380

Dedicated or Listen Servers

* TCP 27015 (SRCDS Rcon port)

If they do not block those ports I'd ask them why you can not connect.
