Unable to use Guild of Thieves training room

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 10:19 pm

Hello,

I'm now part of the Guild of Thieves (I have been given my uniform). I've been told that I can use their training room.

Yet, when I try to lockpick the different chests, I get told by various persons: "You know you're not supposed to be in here right now" - and the process is interrumpted.

Why is this?

Anticipated thanks.

maybe do the first few quests before you use the training room? I remember having an issue with this on my first character (6 months ago), but it came right after a while.

That happens to me even now, and my current character is the Guildmaster. There's no consequence for it beyond a verbal reprimand, but unless you crouch or remain hidden when you pick the locks, if there's someone in the room they'll still chastise you for it. I assume it's because, even if you're in a place you're allowed to be with something you're allowed to access, NPCs still respond like that when you pick locks because you're not meant to do that.

Basically, either crouch down or stay out of sight or each time the lock will be reset. It's totes annoying.

Thanks for your replies.

As you wrote, this is mighty annoying as, every time you are "reprimanded", the lock resets.

I have just done the Goldenglow (sp) mission (where you have to burn down 3 hives), but I still get reprimanded when I use the training room.

This is all the more irritating since this is my second character and everything went fine with the first one. The first one was vanilla Skyrim, the second (this one) has the "unofficial patch" as a mod. Now, I'm NOT accusing the "unofficial patch" of anything.

Mods/patches/everything else isn't the issue here, it's how the NPCs react to your picking of the lock. I'd just wait until no one's in the training room or crouch down so they can't see you when they're not facing you.

I always just thought (or rather, pretended to believe) it was part of the training - to get good enough at sneak and lockpick that you can pick a lock without getting caught. It is, after all, a training room for thieves.

Yeah, I just assumed the same thing from an RP-perspective lol.

Yes same here, I thought the resetting locks was intentional in this one location to make them much more difficult than a typical lock of the same level as a training device. I never gave a thought to it being because I was observed and it was glitching because of that... interesting. Guess those times when I got the Master lock on a single lockpick are all the more special now.

The 'Quick Hands' perk may stop them from noticing you, but does require spending perks in Lockpicking. Then again, I do like to take the 'Extra Pockets' perk and it requires perks in Pickpocket.
